I have recently acquired a 1998 Max GLE with auto climate control. The car originated in Canada, but will now be living in New England. The auto climate is programmed to display in Celsius. Does anyone know of a way to change the display to Fahrenheit?

This very question has arisen several times. There have been several posts along the lines of "I heard it can be done" but nobody has posted specific instructions.

I have an extra used climate control unit

However, it's for a 95-97 Maxima. I believe that in 98-99 they used a slightly different module that has the extra function of displaying the outside temperature (as is the case for your car). But then again, this may work in your application. If you want it, I'll sell it to you for $40 shipped.

Nonetheless, know that I originally bought it to replace my old module, but it was just the bulbs that needed to replaced, so I never used the used module that I bought from a salvage yard. I did test it out and it works perfectly in my car.

Alternatively, you could order a new one from Courtesy Nissan or some other OEM parts place and get new USA spec climate control unit for about $165 shipped w/ a 20% discount.

Thanks for the info. Had a feeling that might be the answer.

Thanks, but not interested. It's not that big of a deal to me.

This is going to sound like a silly question, but the automatic climate control does actually monitor the interior temperature, right? I've heard some people say it doesn't. It doesn't just put out 75 degree air, or whatever you set it to, correct? It's closed-loop and bases the air output temperature on how warm/cold the interior is? On that note, where does it measure the temperature? Thanks a lot guys!

It depends... on auto it maintains taht temperature... when u manually override the fan the 60-90 degrees at least in my TBIrds acts as the old red---blue slider switch.
90 - HOT
60 - COLD
everything in between

Just for the hell of it....
Try pushing the blue and red temp. control buttons at the same time... thats what changes it from F-->C and vice versa in my TBird, maybe it'll work

The automatic climate control is a sophisticated closed-loop device. It relies on signals from four sensors.
- The in-vehicle sensor, attached to the A/C control finisher.
- The ambient sensor, attached to the radiator core support.
- The sunload sensor, located on the right defroster grille.
- The intake sensor, located on the cooling unit housing.
