Im getting tints done this week but wnat them to be legal. I have to know what percent tint the 4th gen have stock. Anybody know? i rember it being like 5 or something.

The lower the number is the darker the film is cause that how much percent of light goes through your window. If you get 5%, you will always have a police escort on your a$$ writing you tickets as if he was a novelist. Factory windows have no tint but if u look through any window, its a tad darker than when its not there. Therefore they say all factory windows have 75%-85% "tint" which is nothing. If you ever see anyone with 50% tint, might as well have taken that $200 or whatever it costs and wiped your a$$ with it cause you just flushed it down the toilet. If you want to stay safe, get 35% and no cop with ever bother you cause you can see everything inside and the next car on the other side of you. If you want some privacy, you get 20%, visible in the day but nice and dark at night, this is what is on the back of most suvs, in NY cops dont really give you tickets for this either even though here the only legal tint is 70% which is like putting reynolds plastic wrap on your windows. If you're count big stashes like me, you go for some 5% all around and a cool 20% on the windshield, the wont see you inside on the brightest of days with a projector pointed at you. This also weighs heavily on your interior color and if the cop got some nookie last night. Check out the org, there lots of picture of cars and they say how much % it is. When you go to the shop, ask them to put it on ur windows to see if you're diggin it. I know all there is to know about tint cause im poor and had to do my homework before i DID IT MYSELF. well i was planning on getting 35% but my friend in his 2k2 got them, he was stopped 2 days later and got a 130$ ticket, and the cop scaned it with some meter and said they were 27 % and were illigal, cops here in Ct are ****s about tints so i want to make sure i dont egt messed with.

i got 15 (sides) and 5 on the bad window had it for 5 months now.. before i had 20% and had it for 1 1/2. got pulled ova for spining a second( when i was souped about my y pipe install) lol

Maxima's are not tinted stock.

Put 50% on your driver/passenger windows and whatever you want on the rest of the car. I doubt anyone will mess with you.

What about Cali? Whats the darkest tint you can have? And if i'm not mistaken, you can only tint back windows, right?

Correct. In California, you can only tint the rear and back windows, but there is no limit to how dark you can go. A lot of people tint the front windows anyway and risk it. I have 50% on the front windows and have never gotten hassled. It's visibly different from the rear windows at 35%, so it looks dark but in contrast to the rear windows, it doesn't immediately strike you as being tinted. It blends nicely too

I just got mine tinted a week ago. I just bought my max and didnt have a sticker yet so i had them keep it legal here in MA. They put 50% on the windows, 35 on the rear window and 15 on the sunroof. My girl got hers done 35 all around. They said that the windows come with a slight tint to them. So for example here in MA 35 is legal. But with the stock tint that puts you at 30 or below... so if a cop wants to give ya a ticket he can and its tough to get a sticker too unless ya know somebody.

Now here's another question. What if you travel among states, but have Cali licence plates, can they do anything about your tint in other states? Thank you

Not sure if your lawbook is the same as ours in Canada, but over here the fronts cannot be any darker than 35% and the rears can be as dark as you want. I personally would not get such a contrast (for the sake of looks).

I have 15% all around. I would consider 5% if I had to do it all over again. But my Maxima isn't as BLACK as a new black Maxima so 5% tint might be darker than the body! I'll have to think about it.

well here in ct you get pulled over spacificly for tints, thats what happend to my friend, the cop was passin by on the oppiste direction and pulled a u turn. I am thinking of jsut gettin 50%on the sides and maybe 20% in the rear.

I have a 98 black/black and had 35% in the front and 20% on the rear. I got a $250 ticket for excessive window tinting. Although in MA the legal limit is 35% in the front and anything in the back, the tint meter said 33%. Due to the car having A/C the factory windows already have a 2-3% tint inside of the window. This is similar to many other cars having A/C.

So to answer your question, the maxima has a very small amount of tint inside the factory windows. That could be the difference between getting a ticket and being legal.
