I put a 97 non-locking 5spd in my non-locking 96 about a month ago and everything works fine except for the fact that the driver side axle doesn't seat into the differetial all the way. It reaches but slides in and out about 1/2 an inch and is leaking some gear oil. I didn't change the little snap ring on the axle's spline like the book advises to, but it seemed to be in fine working condition. Has anyone had this problem before or know of any solutions?

Are you sure it's in all the way? I had to bang mine in w/a 2x4 and a hammer before it seated properly.

If you do this, be careful not to tear the boot.
