cutting stock springs?

Im thinking of cutting my stock springs on my '99 i30t until I can save the cash for a complete set. I'm an ex-vw junkie and always cut springs on them with no probs', but am new to this whole nissan thing (am lovin' my i30!) but the car really sways around on the freeways. By the way i've got 17's already... thanks for the input, great forum.

thanks drew, I've heard all of the horror stories of cut springs but I've done it on probably 10 cars myself with never a problem so I dunno. Maybe I'll just buy a set and pay to have the springs installed. I just want to have about a 2" drop cheaply for now. I'm not gonna do anything for a week or two but I hate looking at my car with chrome 17's, it does look funny....and I am broke....

lol don't cut the springs, second all install them yourself isn't that hard just time consuming. I would say don't lower over 1.75" I think your CV joints will go to hell from all the rubbing (you will cause extra friction on them by lowering it too much). Also I bet you that you could trade your chrome rims to somebody, or sell them.

I don't know since you are not going with new shocks I would just get H&R the drop makes the car look more finished but if you go with something else that might drop your car more and you won't get adjustable shocks you will be in for one rough ride.

Don't do it. You will spend much more money than necessary for a nice drop. You will spend to replace your quickly blown struts and every other member of the suspension you ruin. If you can't come up with $600 to do it right don't do it at all.

Why would someone want to mod an I30, that is the better question.

Actually that same site with the Cutting Springs article has a full section of mods, check out the Handling area. We pretty much have every single mod for the 4th gen tested and listed:

Get B+G coils, they are pretty cheap, around 300$ for a 2' drop.

praise the lowered...

right on, I can probably deal with 300-350. Guess I'd rather go with that first, though i am also trying to find a decent amp to go with my JL 10" and get that installed. Think I'll go with the suspension mods first thing and wait on the amp. Im checking out the combos to see what I can get probably next week on maybe a group deal or something. Also mike why even be on the site if not to mod out your i30. plenty of old people driving around stockers. just kiddin, don't hate the lowered and hey we are basically just pimped maximas right? thanks guys im new and this site rulz. peace...
