Brake question

I have a 1996 maxima, and i am getting new brakes. What would you guys reccomend. I am not looking for anything special, i have no mods, and do not race, but i also dont want to pay the very high nissan prices for factory pads. What kind would you reccomend? I am most likley getting them from autozone, unless that is not a good idea. I think i just need pads. How often should the rotors be replaced? or how can i tell if they need to be replaced?
thanks for the help

If your brakes are smooth then chances are you don't need rotors. Put good quality pads on the car and you should be good to go. AutoZone pads should be OK. If they offer different pad types, spring for a slightly more agressive Metalic or Ceramic pad.

If you can find them, get the replacement nissan pads mailorder. Sometimes they have them on special at Courtesy Nissan or other mailorder dealers. I got my front pads for 35 shipped. So shop around and save some $$$!!
