Help with Drive Axel

I changed my driver side CV boot today, but am having a problem getting the axel back into the tranny (manual).

The CV writeup at www.motorvate.com says it just 'clicks in' but I'm pounding the crap out of this thing in all sorts of ways, and its not getting any closer to sealing up. Any ideas?

install the axle end and slowly turn until you feel the splines on the axle and the diff line up.... then depending on the tension of the "c" clip...you can push the axle in..or in some cases you need a little help.....a single wack with a hammer should do the trick..... make sure you have the splines lined up or it will never go in....also compare the new axle with your old one.... they may have screwed up and install the wrong inner joint...good luck

Thanks for the tip. I was able to get the splines lined up (or so I thought) when I first gave it a shot. I guess I'll disassemble it tomorrow and give it a try. Would a new retainer clip help?
