Help please! I'm fulacked?!

My trunk will not open!

Here's the scoop:

My trunk all of a sudden will not open with my key. I can put my key in the keyhole but it does not turn. Thinking maybe I hit a switch somewhere that disables it. I bought the car used and do not have a manual and have never heard about anything like this on this car. I was in my trunk trying to figure it out looking around and in the area where it latches, I pulled or pushed a bracket and it moved and clicked into a position so I thought maybe that was it. So I shut it and tried again with the key...no luck. So I just gave up and went inside to do some research about it. A few days later I had to get into my trunk and now will not open with the trunk release latch inside the car. I do not know what to do...someone help please!!!!!

i doubt there's a switch to disable the actual key-lock on the trunk...most likely it's rusted shut inside the lock; my trunk lock is like that now...the key is useless to open it. i'd recommend getting some of that "lock-ease" stuff (usually used for frozen door locks) from the auto parts store and trying that.

as far as the push button switch, can't help ya there...anybody else wanna try?

I had a problem similar to this, is your trunk release push button or a pull lever? Mine is a pull meaning it functions by a cable. My problem was that the bolts on the body of the car that held the latch were loose and because of that the cable fell off the latch that opens the trunk. I also have a problem opening my trunk with the key but I usually can get it to work by just wiggling it around a bit. Try pushing down on the trunk if that doesn't work.

So your saying that it used to open with the latch button inside the car? Well, if it used to open with the latch and not the key and now doesn't open with either then you hit the valet trunk lock. I don't have an answer for the key portion of it but I can help you with the latch button inside the car. What you did when you moved that metal latch down inside the trunk is you disabled the trunk pop from inside the car. Go back inside the trunk and pull that latch back up, this way you can open it with the trunk pop button inside the car. That latch is there for valet use, say you have something important in the car and don't want anyone getting into the car when you have it valet, you push the latch down (in your car you never wanna do that cause the key doesn't work) and you give them the valet key and your set. But that should help you out, I was in the same position.

This might be irrelavant, but on my old pontiac i had a similar problem with the door locks... whenever i would try to unlock the doors with the key it would be REALLY hard to turn...

What i ended up doing is getting some engine oil...s cycle...if it matters lol...i dipped the key into the oil..and put it in the lock....tried to turn it....took it out, dipped it again....put it in...ditto ditto ditto...i did it like 3 times and it started loosening up...after it was oiled up nicely it was as smooth to open as new...however it wasnt completely stuck, so this might or might not help you, but its worth a try...

Try some WD-40. Just stick the red tube in there and give it a couple squirts.
