Hacked Airbox. Pics and Vid. Super easy!!

Just finished hacking my airbox. It seriously took no more than 10 minutes. I just unhooked the 4 clamps, lifted up the top part of the filter and used a wrench to remove the 3 bolts holding down the bottom part of the filter. Slide right out. I then used my trusty Rotozip to cut up the box as shown below. It cut through it like butter. It sounds deep, not ricey really and is only loud when you mash the gas. I haven't driven it yet to see if I notice any difference but I doubt I will (Max not running its best right now), I did this just for the sound. I have no other mods so the sound you hear in the clip is all intake. And my windows are rolled up btw. I'll try to get some vid of it on the street but thats gonna be a littl dangerous. Also, sorry i don't have a vid from before I did it, but trust me, it sound a million time deeper and about 5 times louder now.

Yahoo won't allow me to share files with the public. Anyone know where else I can host the mov?

wow, that looks nothing like an airbox anymore.. oh and is that dirt, Maybe you should wash it off before you have your engine suck all that in.

cool man. You should take out the resonater and run a scoop and some flex pipe to the resonater hole for some cooler air. All the air in the top of the engine bay is hot as hell.

I love mine, but there's one big problem with it. My gas mileage is horrible because I go WOT way more often.

I love my hacked airbox too, I removed resonators as well. Did you do that too?

Obviously! they serve to reduce the noise, secondly their function is to smooth out the airflow into the box as it gets through the snorkle, e.i kill turbulance.

I wouldn't be removing the resonator. Resonator is a very important part of the intake system. It helps air travel into the TB evenly and "properly". Above all, the resonator helps the intake system work more like a vacuum, sucking air in more abruptly and with less lag if you will.

True, however on the other hand, if you cut your airbox, then you kinda destory that relationship and there is no closed enclosure to create vacuum, isn't that so?

just filled up and i only got 16.5 mpg down from my usual 20.5 mpg. I might have to turn my radio up so i won't be tempted to hear my intake.

ouch!!! Yeah, I think i'm definitely going to do that. Especially with the prices as high as they are now, I need the best mileage possible... lol, but something tells me I'm doomed as far as mileage goes... i'll just be too tempted to hear how great it sounds

i don't know if anyone did this but i just made a hole from the bottom of the air box into the wheel well. That way all the air its getting is cold air. I also put a fly net over the hole incase of pebbles.

Good call.

Boss is right, the resonator puts the air into the engine in a way that it can suck it in as a vacuum. Even if you hack the airbox, this can work. The resonator is after the airbox. The only reason that you hack the airbox is to get more air into the resonator and then, into the engine.

I cut a small triangle in mine. I recently removed the scoop with the resonator under the battery...I had to regrease my starter and I didnt get a chance to put it back in. Is leaving the scoop in going to make any difference? Im thinking about putting it back in because the hole in the airbox that goes to the scoop is probably sucking in warmer air from the engine. Is it better to leave the scoop in?
