Well today my auto transmission 97 Se (133K) original and never rebuild started
jerking very bad when shifting from 1st to 2nd , the check engine light came on and when i started the car again, the Over Drive light started flashing too.

i said dang !!! not now !!! since i'm planing road trip to Niagara falls next week.

I pulled the codes from the ECU and i got 1205 -Line Pressure Solenoid Valve (Automatic Transmission) and also pulled the codes from transmission ECU and i got 9 short flashes and the 10th one was long - Hayens manual lists it as the same problem as 1205 which is Line Pressure Solenoid Valve (Automatic Transmission)

Does anybody had similar experience with their Auto tranny ?
Is the repair within scope of home mechanic or should i take it to the dealer/tranny shop?
Where is this solenoid valve located - is it under the hood or inside the tranny?
Will driving the car cause more damage ?
The fluid level is right where it should be and tranny was flushed regulary every 15K miles.

any info would be greatly appreciated

Before you do anything else check the dropping resistor. It is located on the front of the drivers strut tower.

Make sure its plugged in and test it, should be 12 ohms. Thats what it shifts like with it unplugged.

Just a suggestion before you get too carried away.

Oh ya, the solenoid is in the tranny, gotta remove the pan for access.

 

cool , thanks i did check the drop resistor and it was plugged in corectly.

Hmmm, if the solenoid is in the tranny I better get reasy to shell out some major $$$$ for repair.

I had the EXACT thing happen to my 96 SE. The solenoid is located in the transmission pan. I took it to the dealer becasue I wanted it done right. Plus I dont' have expereince in auto's. It cost me $285. Nissan actually has a recall on those solenoids... the actual solenoid is like $250... but since it was recalled a "kit" comes with the solenoid and its only $115. So $115 plus about 2 hours worth of labor and its fixed. I hope that helps

does anybody have link to that TSB recall on Line Pressure Solenoid Valve (Automatic Transmission) for 97 max?
i want to print it out and keep it in the pocket and just in case dealer wants to sell more more that i need i can just show him that TSB.

just do a googel search. I have a TSB for 96 Maxima's

 

the same thing happened to me in my 99'se 46500 miles though, I took mine to the dealer and they said it would cost me like 350 for the solenoids and @300 for labor and they said that there was no recall on them. I ended up getting it overhauled because if u let it go to long it will burn out your clutches. It would rev like 500 after shifting only into 4rth when driven like 15 miles for mine but it would happen every now and then, but i got the same code as u. But no recall that i was told of or not on nissan website for mine anyway.
