Ok, I haven't had this '96 GLE long and I'm still learning things. Got to 3rd gens in the fleet (sons). Last week I sea foamed intake and took it up the road to fill 'er up. Left the gas station and the CEL went on. The guys on .org said to just reset it. Fine, no problem until yesterday. Got gas again, left and the freaking CEL came on again! I double check tightness of gas cap no problem. Does the gasket in the cap go bad? If so where to you get a gasket? Auto Zone and Advanced just sell the caps. Is a vacuum break causing the light to come on?

Pull the code and tell us what it is... It could be bad gas, try a different gas station

 

Take a rag and thoroughly wipe down the gas cap gasket and the fueling port on your car. It may just be dirt and grime leaking fumes through the cap, even though you turn it until it clicks.
