Good FIRST/BEGINNER mods????

Hey guys. I've been surfing the forum a lot and have been trying to pick up ideas on what simple modifications to do to my max first. I've seen many people say that a y-pipe is the the best value. Others say that a RSB is better and wish they would have gotten it before anything else. These are just a few examples. So my question to you guys is: If you had to do it all over again, what would have been the top 3 you would have done first, in order of preference? It can be cosmetic, performace, suspension, WHATEVER. (I.E.: 1. y-pipe; 2. DC clears; 3. RSB). Just trying to get some ideas here. Thanks.

first mods? stickers...and lost of them, but anywya, i have the ypipe and i realized that the car never lacked in power, ypipe is a plus, but id get a RSB because i figured out i value handling more than power

Honestly...you do NOT need a strut bar. You arent racing your car at the Le Mans...so there's no big need for that.

Diamond Cut Clear bumper lights
Red/Clear tail lights
Shaved trunk
Lowering springs
window tint

those should get your max lookin bad azz...and then when more cheese rolls thru...

18-19" wheels
body kit
CAI
catback exhaust
y pipe

my 5 cents

Or you can do it my way. I was stupid and decided to go with the Rice look first, before I had the any mods. So I started with cosmetics: total $130

DC clears
Altezza's (then modded for the Skyline Look)
Shaved M-A-X-I-M-A
Replaced all GOLD emblems with (Silver Emblems)

Then came the engine modding in this order: total $600 or so
Warpspeed Y-pipes (if your auto, you'll notice the difference immediatly)
Unorthodox Pulley (dont notice much, until your going like 80 or so, well in my opinion)
Ebay(Cold Air Intake)+ Extender (autozone) now my intake is placed where my fogs use to be, you can hear it, I dont think it did much.
VBmod (mobiletek)+Tranny cooler; if your auto this is another +, man you feel faster, shift harder, and shift quicker.
Replace KS: unlock some missing power

Future Mods:
ECU(technosquare)
Patherfinder TB
Torque Converter
Nos or boost.

Hope it helps.

performance go with an intake or y pipe. rsb is a good start too

looks, go for clear tails and dc's

Here is your list:
1. DC Clears (I got mine from www.custommaxima.com and they look really good) This is huge for looks.
2. Mandrel bent y-pipe....never regretted it one bit...great power.
3. Custom Catback system (I used custom b-pipe.....stock resonator, and 5th gen muffler.)

The order I did things in was a little different though:
1. EBC Greenstuff upgraded brake pads
2. Hands-free kit for cell phone
3. DC Clears
4. Sylvania Silver Stars
5. ReVotec FSTB
6. Custom Catback system
7. Repainted Hood, Front bumper, rear bumper, mirrors, and grill like stock.
8. Warpspeed y-pipe

I also think the Maxima has pretty good power already. Plenty for everyday fun! It just handles like a 1986 Lincoln Towncar (that's not at all a compliment). I added a FSTB to my stock suspension first. This made a BIG difference in how much the car "shakes" and feels when driving over rough roads. Next I got a Tokico suspension kit, since the struts needed replaced anyway. Already handles MUCH better now. Soon to come: 17" wheels w/ summer only tires and a RSB. I also plan to remove the Nissan logo in the rear, remove the pinstripe and get some clear corners.
P.S. I guess I also have a Magnaflow muffler, b/c mine was rusted out when I got the car and the Magnaflow was cheaper than stock. It gives the car a nice low tone. I love it!

What is the KS mod? never heard of that one...

I just got my max and my first mod was 18s...i figured i would get the most expensive mod outa the way, outside of a blower or turbo...

Rims give the BIGGEST cosmetic change compared to ANYTHING else and they throw in better handling as wel Rims should be a first IMO...

unless you just wana go fast in a straight line that is

i wouldnt go any smaller than 18s tho...17s are more for the performance side... but 18s didnt realy slow me down much either, just make sure they dont weigh more than 30 pnds a peice UNLESS your getting chrome...

I am getting struts second...then coilovers or springs...then comes the engine...CAI....Y-PIPE.....a few cheap mods here and there untill i save up for MEVI, then JWT ECU... i dunno just my 2 cents

I dont think clear bumper lenses, window tint, red clears, are actually mods. Those are more of cosmetic upgrades.
When I think of mods, I tend to think of performance upgrades.
I'd do intake, full exhaust, springs and wheels.
That should get you performing a bit better and looking good.

I believe it is in How-to's at the top of page, antkiev.

Flavor, I will be going to Waco, TX tonight to Baylor University to stay with a friend of mine from Mississippi College. We are going up to Dallas tomorrow night to see Jerry Seinfeld in concert. It will be a blast.

XeroX, 18's do slow you down considerably. They will give you better top speed, prolly, but not off the go. I will beat you every time if my car is running the same stuff with me having my stock 16" and you having 18". Now handleing is a different thing.

I bought my max with some mods on it. It had DC clears, custom catback, rims, tint and altezzas.

Next thing I did was
*Invested around $500 into new speakers and head unit
* shaved burger off the trunk
* Hacked my airbox
* all red window, climate control buttons and gauge cluster
* LED front turn signals (props for idea and how-to goes to Geo1317!!)
* Just finishing my LED tails plus gonna tint them
*Waiting for Maxspeeds to come (GR-2s are in garage already)

Next mod - definitely Y pipe, probably somewhere in summer, though there is now a drop dead deal on the Org for Warspeed, man how bad I want it, will check my stock y pipe and will pray for flex section to be broken

Allright, Happy Modding!!

Question to Orgers, what other bolt on mods like y pipe increase performance? Heard UDP give quite little HP...

beginner mods: intake, wheels, drop

IMO do the suspension 1st
ex: drop, brakes, intake+y pipe. The car is fast enough to begin with but the handling and brakes are crap.

Lightened Flywheel and ACT clutch, I guess I'll do those when my transmission dies and will be swapped. I believe it's gonna be somewhere in a year, no later..it grinds quite a bit already.

I agree- I went with the OSCAI (ghetto CAI) first. Great way to start- butt dyno very happy probably mostly because of the eardrums. Also good to learn that you can slice and dice w/o negative effects!!

I understand this post is 6 years old but... The first thing I did was remove my pinstripe. I found a adhesive remover product made by 3M at my local Advanced Auto store. In the body section I found a hard plastic bondo knife (looked like a little meat cleaver), very sharp edge. One section at a time I was able to remove the pinstripe without scratching the clear coat. I was very cautious so it to about 4 hours total and 2 full cans of adhesive remover. I also washed the section I was working on with hot water and regular car soap multiple times during the process for each section. Buffed, waxed and the paint looked brand new with no trace of pinstripe.
