Budget Y-pipe SOON. Now, any MUFFLER suggestions? FORGET cat-back!!
What's up guys. I will probly be ordering a Budget y-pipe this summer, and I wanna get a deep, growling sound, if possible. (Kinda like my bro's Mustang GT). I've read up on catback exhausts and found that not many HP gains are evident for how much you have to spend. So, my question is.... why not just buy a different muffler? Correct me if I am wrong, but the muffler is what gives the specific tone of the exhaust. What do ya'll think? Which mufflers do you guys recommend? Will the y-pipe affect the tone of the muffler? Mufflers alone aren't too expensive to buy (off of eBay.) Thanks!

Power-wise, a muffler will give you about the same gains as a catback.
But you are correct in that the muffler determines the overall tone of the exaust. A y-pipe will make it louder if you've got an aftermarket muffler, but not really noticible with the stocker.
