C.V Boots leaking ...

I was wondering how important it is to get the cv boots fixed and how soon it should be done. They have been leaking for 1 or 2 months as far as i know, and i was quoted by nissian about 400$ to fix, I went to a corner shop around here that did my sway bar links and he quoted me 200$. Do you think 200$ total ( parts and labor) is a fair price? ANd do you think i should get the boots fixed??

thanks !!!!

They have to be fixed immediately when you find that they are leaking. It's not like oil, which you can top up. AFAIK if you don't you can say bye to your cv joints, and that's a lot more cash. $200 seems good - get it done!

this topic has been discussed quite a bit lately. if the boot is still packed with grease then you can just replace the boot. otherwise, and probably a better option would be to buy a complete axle for a lot less than $200 and change it yourself.

Yeah after 2 months of driving with a torn boot(very bad idea) you should definitely replace the axle.

I just got a passenger side axle from raxles.com for about $175 including shipping back the core (free for maxima.org members). The quality is unbelievable. The entire thing looks brand new!

If you just keep replacing the CV boots, do you ever have to replace the Joints? How much are the joints (parts/labor)? Do they start to show wear after certain amount of miles?
