which shocks are go for a 95 maxima kyb's, tokico's, or koni's?

I'm looking into this too. My buddy talked to quite a few people and he ended up going with the tokico eibach spring set up. His car looks good and rides better on smoothish pavement better than my stock 97 SE setup. Rough pavement is only slighlty harsher than stock. And Tokico makes the factory shocks for nissan - there just not as heavy duty. Stillen is pretty much the authority on the Maxima and they of course agree with this but it really comes down to personal preference. My 2 cents..

Tokicos suck. I had them on my car (w/ H&Rs) for ~35K miles. They were never much stiffer than stock to begin with, but after ~10K miles they started softening. By the time I replaced them, they were mush. The car handled like a boat. The car bounced around a lot on bumpy roads, was floaty on the highway, and felt spooky on hard but bumpy corners.

I recently replaced them with Konis. Everything the Tokicos weren't, these are. The car is totally composed. Bumps are absorbed instantly with no bouncing. Stability is awesome (no more floatiness).

If you want mediocre shocks that are barely stiffer than stock, then by all means waste $300 or so on Tokicos. If you want real high performance shocks, get Konis.

theres' been a bunch of post on the 5th gen sayin' toks are nice but go out real soon. kyb is kanot pay bills expensive and imo no good. so koni's are highly recommended by the many. but i say if u got the money try going tein. i'm you gotta get it straight through japan though. they make really nice coilovers. they run around 2k retail. but i suggest pay no more tahn 1.5k. my friend got it for 1.3k

I agree totally with "KEVIN97SE" regarding his post on Tokiko vs. Koni further down on this tread. I have the same experience going from Tokiko to Koni... I'd say Tokiko is a very poor choice for any car...

I think Konis are better than Tokicos too, but the problem is, that Tokicos are the only aftermarket "performance" shocks which are direct plug in.

Konis are direct plugin for the rear, but the fronts require custom fab work to fit them into the existing front strut mount (which means you have to sacrifice your old front struts). In the end, the Konis will cost more than the Tokicos since they need to be custom installed.

I wouldn't say Tokicos are a poor choice for any car...they work pretty well on Civics (oops..sorry, this isn't the Honda board..hehe..)...perhaps it's cuz' Civics are lighter? I dunno... Also, don't forget the Illuminas.

custom work? I was planning on putting them on myself but if it more work i might as well deal with the tokicos. what do you guys think?

time before, hopefully I'll clear up some questions. I had a Tokico, Intrax combo. It actually rode really nice for first couple of months, firm but not harsh. Yes Yes, tokicos suck, one of my front struts blew after couple of months. I had to get it replaced but didn't want to deal with Tokicos so I got KYBs instead. They are cheaper than the Tokicos. They are underdampened as well but get the job done for its price. They don't get soft as the Tokicos tho over time. So if you're just into looks and looking for cheap replacements get the KYBs but for serious performance get the Konis. They are not that hard to insert if you have some good tools.

yes alot stiffer than stocks. but make sure you get shocks and springs or else it'll be bouncy with just springs

Isn't KYB going to start making the adjustable shocks for the max too? Or was that AGX hmm....I dunno. Help me out somebody

Adjustable Gas shockX. i just e-mailed them about this and still have no reply. but some places say they don't have this application YET.

hopefully i'll get an answer soon; if not i'm just going to get Koni's.

for the maxima. I don't know the exact the release date but soon. I'll be getting those, they will be cheaper than the Konis.

What about Bilstein? I'm not sure how performance oriented they might be, but they gotta be tough if they're OEM equipment for MB.
I already know that if I get any springs, it'll be the H&Rs but I don't know about shocks. Konis sound great, but too much $$ for me. KYB sounds like a good cheap alternative, tho. Does anybody know about the H&R coilovers???

Does H&R make coilovers for the Maximas. What generation 3,4 or 5. I know Eibach has one for the 5th gen. They have it installed on their turbocharged Eibach 2K Maxima.

dont tokicos come with a lifetime warrenty?..why doesnt anybody thats had problems with them, just replace them.

go with cattman coilovers there the best but $$$$$$$$$$$$
