Should I do this?

some dude in my school has offered me 6200 for my 96 maxima gle, almost 106000 miles on it, and just had egr tubes cleaned, all new o2 sensors, magnaflow muffler, and 15% tint. The upside, is that there is a 97 black with black leather SE in fon du lac(only 20 miles away or so) for 6500/obo. It's auto with 97k on it. Sound good? Let me know your input.

black on black 97 SE is nice, but do you want to go with another auto? if you want a change and get the 97 thoroughly checked out by a mechanic, then go for it. i know though if i were to ever buy another 4th gen, i'd definately get a 5 speed but that's just me. depending on what you want, go for it.

yeah, the black on black is hot. the interior is perfect. only problem is that the CEL is on for the knock and o2 sensor, but he says he had them replaced. he has receipts from mechanic, so it appears that the work was done on it. A few minor door dings and scratches, but nothing major. I might have to make this official later this week. It looks too good to pass up. And another thing, i cant find a manual max around here to save my life, ill take one if i can find it, but Im not gonna sweat it. It's all about the pimp factor

LOL. thatd be naughty. i know the dude, so im not out to rip him off. im gonna take out my optima yellow top though. Is it possible for the CEL to keep coming on, even though the repairs were done? Does that happen? I want to be sure im not getting the shaft here. The car is really nice, and I hope everything goes through, but that CEL is making my skeptical

I bet there are NO black/black 5-speed 4Gs for sale in the state of Wisconsin. There certainly weren't any listed online when I looked, which was for a period of six months or so. I had to go to Chicago to get mine...worth the drive, let me telllll you.

Yeah, get the 97. Screw the CEL, it's unlikely that it's anything you can't fix easily. Obviously you want to inspect the car thoroughly and test drive it before you buy.

If the guy had stuff replaced to take care of the CEL then reset the ECU to see if the CEL goes away. If it doesnt, think twice...

And my .02 is get a (1996) 5-speed if at all possible.

So its not like your going to tell him how much you paid for the new one. Besides you got the hook up.

exactly. i dont have to mention how much i paid for the new one. for all he knows, i paid 8k for it. I also have another option on the table. My friends dad is selling his 92 talon tsi AWD 5 spd, 1500 bucks with a new tranny and clutch...I know him really well, so its not like he'd be ripping me off. I'm not sure yet though, i've fallen in love with the maxima and its VQ
