I saw on the local news the other day, that local gasoline merchants were 'tipping the scales' as it were when it comes to how much gas was pumped into your car. For example, a car that only had a 15 Gallon tank pumped in nearly 20 gallons of gas! At least that is what the meter read!
I have a 96 Maxima GXE, but I can't find anywhere that says how big my gas tank is so I can test this out myself. Anybody know how many gallons the gas tank holds?

My tank has a 13 gallon. What sucks is the fact that I put in premium. When the gas prices were high, I was paying 1.80 a gallon for 94 octane.

I remember reading somewhere it's a 19.5 gallon tank. Can anyone verify this?

Well, there is an outside agency that comes to check all the pumps. They pump "x" amount of gas into a pre-measured container then compare it to the pump's meter. At least that's what they used to do. Look for some little round stickers somewhere on the pump the next time.

i saw this on my local news too but quite a while back. they said that every gallon was upped 7 cents at a local gasoline place. its been that way for months. so the gasoline place said that they would subract seven cents from every gallon sold for the next few months. seemed like a way to compensate, but.. if the gas place took only seven cents away, they would be selling the gas for what we normally have had to pay. thus, they started 7 cents high, went down to normal competative price in the area, and would go back up over 7 cents in a matter of months. the news anchor caught this and came back a few days later and the director of the gas place said *no comment*. i forgot what the gas place was though, possibly diamond shamrock.

yup, 18 gallons. You think $1.80/gallon is expensive? Try $2.10/gallon here in Hawaii!
