97 cluster SE question

Hi I was wondering if I were to purchase a 97 cluster SE for my GXE... is there anyway to change the odometer to the correct mileage? For say... 86k to 130k? Thanks

I am going to give you a free bump to keep your question up , so someone with the knowledge may help you. Come on people stop responding to " Useless Threads" and start implementing your knowledge to someone who needs it.

You can take it to the dealership and have them reset it for you I believe.

i carefully took apart my gauges. I removed the needles and faces. When you reach the speedomter, there is a minibracket you can move to turn. Its a small mini rod along with little dials. Pop out the metal rod out of the socket, switch the miles to where it actually is now, and carefully pop it back in...

Its pretty ghetto-ized, but it worked.

Back in the day they used to pull the speedometer cable out and attach it to a drill...spin 'em back. The same would work for forward.

I don't know if your odometer has the dye in it...so make sure you're spinning the right way just in case

You can physically move it forward, but you can't force it backward because of the way the gearing is arranged. Nissan isnt stupid about these things...

The gearing is arranged in a way you cannot move it backwards, but the way i stripped it I was able to move it backwards. The cluster I bought had 10,000 miles more than what I had. If you pop the metal bracket out all the digits become "loose".

Then again, i used a 95 analog, so im not sure about the newer models.

the dealer can do it so i've heard.

what's wrong with your speedo? i've swapped mine out because it broke and i just waited til my mileage hit the same amount, so if your's isn't broken, you can put it in there.

The Dealer WILL NOT touch the gauge cluster. I recently bought a SE cluster for my 98 GXE digital odometer and I asked them the question. In response, they said it's illegal and I shouldn't do it because of State of Maine rules (ya whatever b1tch). No one's gonna know but me

Does the '97 ECU log the miles? If so, I find it curious that the dealer wouldn't make the change.

it's illegal for them, and anyone, to set it back. i can't imagine it's illegal to bring them forward to the proper mileage of the car. i have heard that some mechanics do it, so maybe it depends on the place?
