CEL on BUT pull ONLY an 05 05...what gives?
I have reset 3x and each time it comes back on w/in 2 days, but the only code that I pull is the 05 05.
I read up and found this: https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...highlight=0505 (nice one, Ben, on the "replace engine immedately"!!!)
and this https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...highlight=0505
This still does not help me. All of the threads that i have read say that 0505 w/ CEL can be fixed w/ a reset, btu that is not the case here...any input from code gurus?

I'm not Guru but somewhat of the same thing happened, to me. I was driving to a friends and the CEL came on, checked it the next day pulled an 05-05, check 2 more times, same code. Reset it, and it hasnt came back, I spoke to some people at Nissan and they said that if it goes away dont worry about it but if its contnues to bring it into them so they can do a more thorough diagnostic.
Maybe take it in somewhere, where they can hook it up and conduct a more indepth analysis.
Good luck

I got this one several days ago. Someone? I'll ask my buds at Nissan next time I'm up there. Also, In the second thread you linked to one guy said that his TCS light turned on. He has a 99. I didn't know any 4th gens had that feature.
Since some people have attributed the 0505 to gas cap failure, it leads me to a question about how the light works.
If I have a CEL trigger and pull the code, then I fix the problem, does the CODE go back to 0505 but the CEL remain on, or does the code itself remain until it is cleared?
Meaning, if my fuel cap was the culprit (not properly sealed) and then I tighten it down, will the code go away but the CEL remain on until I reset, or would the relevant code remain until fixed and reset?

i switch out the ecu's alot on my max and check them a pretty good bit. sometimes when i reset the ecu, i see 05 05 flash. then i switch the key to the off position. when i crank the car up, no cel, it reset and the 05 05 i see sometimes is gone.
I am hoping that it is something like what I mentioned above- that the problem goes away and takes th ecode with it, BUT the CEL remains until being reset. Can anyone substantiate that idea?
CEL came back on after 50 miles...gues what code I pulled? 05 05!!!
Weird thing...I turned the ignition off, then turned the car back on (turned it over) and the CEL went away WITHOUT me resetting it.
This is driving me nuts!

Are you pulling the code manually or you going to Auto Zone or somewhere else to read your code. If you doing it manually I recommend to you have it checked out at Auto Zone with ODB II reader. May be there is two code's and you can only read the 05 05.
I am pulling it manually. i need to go have it pulled at Autozone, but I keep hoping that it will just go away, since all that I read is an 05 05. Maybe I should stop dreaming...

Well I had replaced my KS and upon driving it was being very strange. It would come on, then go off, then miles later start flashing and i got scared and kept resetting the ECU with the screw to no avail but once i unplugged it for a while, it was fine. Worth a try, only lose your radio stations...

Mine was doing the exact same thing for the last few days. Kept pulling 05/05 all the time. Then I finally had it dynoed and it just pulled that I needed a new O2 sensor.
Anyhoo I too will reset my ecu by unpluggin the batt as well.
