Carbon Fiber Mud Flaps

Hey, My buddy has just gotten into composite molding mainly with carbon fiber. We had this idea to make carbon fiber mud flabs that look just like the OEM ones on the car. Is this a dumb idea or would it be cool? I have talked to some people and they split down the middle on if it would be cool or not. But I keep looking at my car and visualizing shiny Carbon fiber down there and it seems like a sweet idea. Oh and the idea of mud flaps came up cause it would be easy to make the mold and eveything else has already been made. Give me your input, ideas, and comments and maybe in a couple of months u will see carbon fiber mud flaps.

That's really dumb IMO. CF hood/trunklid/door pillars are as far as I would go...maybe even a CF spoiler/wing. Anything more on the exterior just starts looking tacky.

IMHO that would look bad, I like CF but not for mudflaps. I dont even like oem mudflaps.
If your looking to make a new CF product, how about CF mirror covers or a grill?

Yea that is true i am defintily not a fan of altezza's or doing anything to my car to make it look like a rice rocket. I like the look of a more stock looking car. But it was a thought and thanks for the inputs.

Grille we could do like what style? Like the style they sell from custom maxima? Also what do u mean by Mirror covers? Like just a piece that goes over it or the full mirror part made from CF? Any other suggestions of CF parts?

Well bent and dirty i don't think so i'm prolly not gonna do it. But the durability of CF is high. I am part of the Buckeye Bullet motorsports team and had helped make the body all out of CF and that crap can take a beating. www.buckeyebullet.com

Well speaking of tacky looking what is with u guys not painting your bottom lip? IMHO You want people to see it and make it look stock. Not hide it by painting it black.

IMO there would be no point of getting a CF lip if you plan to paint it, might as well get the urethane if you plan to paint. i personally think the CF lip loks best on dark carks like black, dark blue, dark green... as far as the mudflaps i think it would look bad, not just because it is CF, i just dont like the way those flaps look on maximas. if you want to do something CF, try to make a CF head liner, i saw one in an eclipse and it is super hot and adds to custom interior(esp if you have CF Dash, Guage Bezzel, and the door inserts) or maybe CF side mirrors, CF door handles (exterior, make anything just scratch that mudflap idea. Good Luck

Thanks man i appreciate the advice. But yea most of the cars these days use CF for looks rather than it's material properties. The car I work uses carbon fiber for the whole body and it's strength, flexibilty and weight is awsome. But even more the Formula SAE car next to us in the shop uses it for the structure of the car it is crazy. (3 inch thick walls of CF with i think honeycomb in the middle). A-arms suspension eveything is bolted on to it with no piping for support.

i'll work on it i would need to get the exact dimensions to make the mold or the acutal sarona girll. For sure i could make one like the stock with the emblem in the middle or no emblem but i do like the look of the sarona style. Any other suggestions?

I like the sarona grill...

To me that would be sweet in CF. Its basicly like the 95-96 grill so it should be somwhat easy to mold.
As for the side mirrors, just do covers, that snap on over the existing oem mirrors.

The door pillars I paid 65.00 shipped for them.
The CF door sills, I had custom made for me and paid another 65.00 shipped.
They were purchased over a year ago.

What id like to see in CF would be a rear deck cover. A piece that covers the back deck where the rear speakers and third brake light are. It would sit on top of the deck and make the speakers flush and kinda mold into the third brake light. That would be so dope.

Hey can you hook it up with some carbon fiber rims?

ummm are you my roommate? haha because i seriously just said that idea to my him 2 hours ago......i would be able to make that and have the speakers still showing and the vents would also fit right in on it. I just didn't know if people would go for it cause if u have tint no one would see it. As for the rims i wish i could.... The guys next to me at the shop are working on getting them for their Formula SAE car i'll let u know how it goes. Prolly gonna be expensive. So for sure i can mold the door sills, and the back dash. Within the next couple weeks I should have it done. I also am gonna do something but i'm not gonna tell you till i have pics haha.

I just don't know how safe that would be. I wouldn't want u to get in an wreck then your buddy with you gets blasted in the face with sharp carbon fiber then the person who made the part gets in huge trouble. haha think about it
