Y-Pipe/ Flex Pipe

First off I have checked out the FAQs.

My problem: I believe it is my flex pipe that seems to be ready to fall off. The piece that I think is called a flex pipe (correct me if I am wrong) looks like a weaved basket near or part of the Y-Pipe. My Y-pipe is stock. It looks exactly like the Y-Pipe pics from the FAQ's and the location up under the engine seems correct. Any ways this piece is rattling and the rings on either side of this are hanging on the regular pipe.
Is this going to fall off anytime soon? If this falls off what are the ramifications for driving for 300 miles or so before getting fixed.

Can this piece be fixed separately or does the whole pipe need to be replaced? Prices?

Also I live in Massachusetts and am driving up to Vermont at the end of the week. Any chain stores or local stores to these areas that will have what I need to buy(stock y-pipe, performance Y-pipe, flex pipe etc)? Internet buying does not seem to be an option if I am to fix this during the coming weekend as shipping will probably not make it in time. I hope to have my friend in VT that is more knowledgeable about these things install/fix the issue.

I apologize for the long general post. Please correct me if I am wrong in any area of my assumptions. I am not an expert what so ever. Answers to any of my questions will be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks in advance,

MM

It's the flex section of the Y-pipe, not a seperate piece. Sounds like it's time for a performance Y-pipe . If money is an issue a performance one is probably your only option unless you get a used one on the org because I think the precats make it really expensive. As far as it falling of, it won't permanently damage anything. Just make a ton of noise, and maybe make it run like crap since the O2 sensors won't know what's going on with all the fresh air coming in. Mind if I ask what part of MA Hanson is?

Well if it is stock, I suggest just go aftermarket, no sense in repairing a stock ypipe that is falling apart.

Budget has one for $190, and its great I love mine.

Thank you for the info.

Hanson is off of route 3. Between Boston and Cape Code aka the south shore.

Thanks!

Just one last question and I think I am good on this issue.
I am going for an aftermarket rather than a Nissan Y-pipe since they cost $686 for the part itself.
I have heard that before emissions inspection you just need to make sure your car is warmed up. Has anyone in the Massachusetts area or from some place that has tough emissions standards ever had any issues passing emissions inspections?

Thanks in advance,

MM

Just drive around for 30 minutes right before the inspection and don't turn off your car and you'll be fine
