4th Gear slip!
Hello All
I was headed to amy destination, was in 4th gear, and I just happened to put a little force on the shifter, not too much and it slipped into neutral! I was shocked I wasnt on the clutch or anything, I though I might have been so I tried it again, sure enough with a little force it slipped into neutral! What does this mean, I guess it means my clutch is bad and slipping (which I felt before but didnt know it was this bad)
I tried all the other gears, 1st - 5th, and they didnt budge, its just 4th.
any advice?

If I'm not mistaken this is fairly okay. 4th is a 1:1 gear and I guess that makes it easier to slip out. Every standard tranny car that I've driven I've been able to get out of gear without depressing the clutch. I know this isn't good for the clutch but I wouldn't be worried until you start noticebly losing grab.

Your clutch doesn't come into play here. You'll find that with the right throttle you can do this easily in any gear.
It's pretty normal, though I wouldn't make it a habit pulling it out of gear like that.

Whew, thats a relief to know, I've never done it before and ofcourse never really tried.
So me being able to do that in 4th would happen on a new clutch or an old clutch? its simply due to the gear ration of 1:1?
thanks for this info, I know my clutch is slipping anyway, luckily its still under warranty so I'll get new one put in.
just out of curiosity what are the gear ratios for the other gears?

umm clutches usually aren't covered by any warranties (though you may have gotten a crazy one), as its usually considered a "wearable" part.
as for it coming out of gear, its called rev-matching or clutchless shifting, and it can be done into or out of, every gear. Supposedly many semi-truck drivers do it on a regular basis, but I wouldn't make a habit of it, as if you mess up, it'll grind like all hell, which can't be good for your tranny.
