For those worried about running brighter clearance lights...

....the ones next to the headlight. I wanted to do this for ahwile but heard stories about the lense cracking if you did the "nub mod". So 2nite while installing them I noticed that there is a factory hole that allows heat/moisture/condensation to escape. It is a very small hole though if you try to look through it. I got my drill and made it alot bigger. You can't tell from looking at it after its installed either, you would never even know there was a hole there to begin with. After drilling out this much bigger hole you have to make sure you get all the shavings out of the lense b4 installing the bulb. Then place the rubber "U" back on to ensure that moisture wont beable to get inside. I think I used a 7/32 drill bit.

This is very very easy and somewhat hard to jack up. I havent had bulbs in there for about a year b/c they werent bright enough. Now they look awsome, very orange and very bright, and since I got the "titanium" ones from Pep Boys you cant see them during the day either Hopefully mines dont crack now since it will be much easier for the heat to disapate.

I might post pics one day but I personally dont have a camera, sorry....

Interesting, I have not heard of those clearance lights cracking due to the extra heat from that mod. I have heard of the fog lights cracking when upgrading to like PIAA hyper whites. I have never really experienced high heat from those clearance lights, but the fog lights as soon as they are on you can feel the heat with your hand.

nice mini write up, trevor.

Unfortunately, I haven't done this mod yet because i'm more scared of the bulb burning out than cracking.

thanks Benny. So you when you gonna let me check out what this ECU upgrade is all about?

Its not the bulbs that people have said crack, its the lense. Alot of people have said they get "spider" cracks over time.......

well what happend i think is that if you drive around all day or nigth with your fogs on the plastic gets really hot then is like you drive through a puddle or it starts to rain the rapid temp change causes the plastic to contract really quick which causes a crack

I thought the fog lenses were glass, unlike the headlight lenses, which are plastic on 97-99s.

I have a crack in my passenger fog lens and it sure as hell looks and feels like glass to me. Anyone know for sure?

My corner lens has cracked due to the extreme heat of the "nub" mod. Theres 2 hairline cracks INSIDE the light...

So while it doesnt happen to everyone, yes it can happen...

What is so hard to understand???? Do you know of the lense next to the headlight? HINT: (they are touching eachother), another hint, people do the "nub" mod to the bulb inside it. How many people do a "nub" mod to the foglight, none because they dont have nubs.

SOME people have had the lense crack due to the extreme heat as 99maxima5spd said above you. And others have not attempted it b/c they dont wanna run the risk. I am simply provided a good idea to those w/ it and those that want to do it.

If anyone does not understand than this thread does not apply to you.....
