Fuel filter, PCV valve, spark plugs and 60K service, etc
I did a search and came up with jack so here goes... I'm doing my 60K service, got Mobile 1 sythetic gearbox oil (couldnt find redline), coolant, oil and filter, already changed the K&N. The local shops didnt have any NGK or Denso spark plugs, so I went with AutoLite Double Platinum. Before I go changing out my stuff, any body have any experience?
I read the Nissan Owner's manual, and nowhere does it say ANYTHING about the PCV valve or the EGR valve as outlined in many 60K service procedures on this forum. Then again, it never says anything about changing the trans fluid either, unless under super extreme conditions.
As for the fuel filter, all it says is if you drive in extremely cold climates, it might be possible for the fuel filter to be clogged. The drive belts I'm not gonna change they look alright.
So the question is- fuel filter and PCV valve, change or no? and, are Autolite Double Platinum plugs any good?

It's cheap preventive maintenance and you can do both yourself in 1/2 a day. I'm doing mine at 60K.

60K Service
I just changed my fuel filter at 60K, and was very surprised at how plugged it was. It was actually quite hard to blow through. The new one was very free flowing. I remember someone else mentioned experiencing the same thing.
I just purchased the car, and it had the original Nissan air filter... that was quite dirty.
The plugs still looked good. I'll probably let them go for a while... I've got a set of NGK's ready to when the time comes.
Good Luck!

When I did my 60k service I think the old filter was a bit harder to blow through than the new one. The original PCV valve had brown/burnt? color on the side opposite of the PCV hose. It looked tired but that color could be natural caused by the hot crankcase air. My car was not even 2 years old when I did that service. In my case I thought it was worth it...your choice.
PCV valves, if they are all metal, can be cleaned. Fuel filters should absolutly be changed by 60k miles. The way 95% of the people drive they fall into the "Severe Maintance Schedule". The maintenance guidlines in the owners manual is just enough to get the car through its warranty period without major failures.
BTW, when you changed the coolant, did you use distilled water? That's the factory fill, and important for avoiding corrosion. If you have ABS you should also change the brake fluid every 2 years. A problem with K&N filters is that if you don't let them dry completely, actually even if you do, the oil in them will get on the MAF sensor and crud it up (inspite of the heater) it should be cleaned with brake cleaner. Did you also clean the throttle body and plenum?
