PCV Valve

Hey Maximas. How d u know that a PCV is in bad condition and what is it really for? Maintenance book doesn't really tell much about it, but Chilton recommends replacing it when it's bad.

Please, someone knowlegeable, give me some clues on that.
Thanx
Mike

Supposed to change your PCV at your tune ups. IF you read Chiltons it will tell you how to and where its located. Also I know on some cars it will trip the ECU, not sure on maxima. Besides they are really cheap and easy to change.

There's a little ball inside the valve that moves up and down to allow air to go through. When the valve is clogged, the ball won't move. (Shaking it makes no sound.)

I've heard of people cleaning out the valve by removing it and spraying some throttle body cleaner through it.

My advice would be to just replace it if you're going to go through the trouble to remove it. It's like a $5 part.

Well, Ive checked Chilton and it just shows you little thing sticking out of intake manifold, on the top, in the center of the engine, a little to the back of it, with the hose attached to it.

I've got 130 K on my Max, I've never changed it, I hope it will give me some horses back. The problem is, your NISSAN manual doesn't say to change PCV Valve as part of a regular maintanence.

Just had mine change today by a member who goes by the name "Celica". It was a bit hard to change because of all the wires in the way. When he took mine out, it was ALL BLACK and dirty, the ball didnt move much when shaken.

So, did you feel any difference in performance or gain any horses back? How many miles is on yours?

you get lack of power, oil leaking, you need to change that thing every 20000 miles. I would change it with every tune-up. That thing releases gasses from the cylinder, and if it's clogged then your fuel/air ratio is getting messed up.

go to www.ask.com and type in "what is a PCV Valve?" they will tell everything you need to know.

Hey, I've jsut changed my PCV Valve, sparks and air filter. My car feels like new!

By the way, I have compared the stock NISSAN Air filter with stock air filter which you buy in Autozone.

Man, autozone one consists of heavy thick paper where any air barely gets through. NISSAN one on the other side is made of thin fine cloth, with thousands of little holes and more, the filter itself is covered with oil which prevents from different stuff to get into your engine.

works awesome for low end.
