How to mold bumpers to our stock bumpers?
How to mold bumpers to our stock bumpers?
Hi guys, any idea's, hints and howto's are apriciated!
I'm going to make my own front bumper, I'm going to use a frontbumper from Wings West that was originally designed for a Acura Integra, saw it up and mold it wilth my stock bumper. I haven't ever done it before, but I think when I take my time, do some research and have enough patience, it should be possible.
I made a photoshop example of how it would look, and the minute I had the bumper fit and the colours matched I knew this is what I want!
What do you think about my design?

If you have experience with molding bumpers and stuff, please email me your tips and tricks.

Wow, not a big fan of that much aggression....its not going to be easy......i would say start off with something you dont care about first so that when it comes time to do the real thing, you'll know exactly what to change and learn from your mistakes. All I can say is its not going to be easy
It's too aggressive for my tastes, and I think it should probably stick out a little more from the front. The front bumper that sticks out is a part of the lines of the maxima, when you cut that away I don't think it really looks right. Just my thoughts though, if you like it, do it. It looks like it would be difficult and a ton of work though (nothing I would know how to do).
When I was with Lockheed we made parts (urathane, carfon fiber, kevlar®, fiberglass) from scratch all the time. It is not difficult, however you must have a few key ingredients:
1. Time - it is very time consuming to do the job correctly. Don't expect a weekend project, more like months. (test fitting, re-testing, re-fitting, re-fitting, re-fitting, allowing proper time for the components to bond....)
2. Proper tools and materials - In theory, you could use a Dremel tool, some epoxy and some bondo, but it would fall apart, crack and look sub-par within a week. Fiberglass and urathane require specific atmospheric conditions to set properly, so you'll need a dedicated (not the garage, you'll kill your whole family from the fumes) space to work in, with proper climate control and ventalation. Also, when working with specialized epoxies and bonding agents, it is very important to have everything prepared accurately, which means all components need to be mixed by weight (buy a nice scale). Most importantly, purchasing appropriate safety equipment is a must. You'll need a class 3 respirator, chemical gloves and possibly a chem suit to protect from spills.
I would encourage anyone to custom-fab parts from fiber, but just know what you're getting into. Because of the time spent, you may want to consider creating a buck/mold system so that you could make multiple pieces to recover your investment. Go to the local library or Barnes & Noble and look at books on fiberglass techniques, they will be very helpfull.

I think it's most important that I like my car, when the car is finished people on car events will judge my car. There are allways people that like it and people that don't, for me it doesn't matter. Cause if they don't like it, they still have looked at it. And that's my main point, to stand out of the croud. And for all you out there ****ing on my car, why do you have to be that insulting? Maybe your way of modding a max aint my style either, still you won't hear me *****ing the way you do.
Also you guys are *****ing at a photograph without being able to see what the total picture will be when I'm finished with it. You have to see it when the new rimms, lowering kit, sideskirts, rear bumper, dual exhaust, window tinting and the custom pearl black paint are on.
Yet I want to ask you to stop this childish *****ing on my car, my taste may be not yours, but that's a good thing, otherwise we would all be driving the exact same car, with exact same color, exact same rimms etc etc etc, just let me be me.

2 each his own, it seems not many people on the org like the bumper, that does say something. all the enthusiats on here hate rice and know they drive a classy car and want to keep it that way. but if you like the design and want that agressive look then go for it, but you better be doing it completly for yourself becuase the only praise it seems there will be on the org is for you acctually completing the molding job
Well, it wont be all rice, the car is just going to be all black, no stickers or **** on my car, although there will be an agrasive bodykit.
I want a front bumper in the Wings West style, sideskirts from Rieger wich are designed for a BMW E30, and a rear bumper from Rieger that was designed for a Audi A4. A rear spoiler in the style of the Skyline R34 GTR spoiler, and maybe I'll even go with a Skyline GTR front bumper in stead of the Wings West, one like this to be precize, I still haven't made my mind up yet.

I dont think it looks that bad..along side the purple and white colors! Althoguh I am not really into the body kits and junk, i will say that it does look better than some of the other bumpers out there. Go for it man!
the org strikes again.
working with fiberglass is likely the way that you'll have to take to make that bumper work. It will take Time as mentioned above, not to mention, reduce your daily drivability (is that a word). Once some moron backs into the bumper...kiss it good BYE!...otherwise...just take your time, and props for trying something out of the norm...oh and welcome to the orgy!

Personlly, I love the V-Spec Skyline GTR front - the Nismo Skyline front is ultra nice too.
Don't listen to anyone else, do what you want to do. It'll be some work, but when you get it finished, you'll have something totally unique.
You'd definitely need to kit the rest of your car if you used an aggressive front like that, drop it, change out the rims, and get a custom paint job. It'll be very unique! Go for it!
PS: Nissan do make a 4 door Skyline sedan...

I think I'll go with a complete skyline mod, mold front and rear bumper and find me some matching sideskirts that I'll mod to the max. You think the 2nd gen alteza's would fit my E-spec Maxima?

did u mentions looks like an integra/CIVIC!!!
Police will be on you thinking it's a civic....
As somebody else mentioned, you'll have to be very careful when driving this thing around. If somebody taps your bumper, you scrape against a driveway or hit something while parking, all your "molding" work will crack.

I need to get myself one of those stillen body kits...
you know. for what it's worth, i must agree with the rest of the org. doing that to a maxima makes it look like any other riced out car out there. the maxima is a big step above civs and tegs. i think the body kit we have are PLENTY flashy. and you checked them all out? i mean a cf stillen lip with skyline sides and rears is all i'd want on a max...thats about as extreme as i would ever get.
putty on a silly front bumper just makes the car look like its a civic/teg the needs to look fast to make up for how it isn't fast.
you don't see sports cars looking like that...
just my opinion.
but if your heart is set on it, it will be alot of work to #1 make it fit, and #2 your going to get stresslines/cracks over it. kust becaue it's not even made for the car. ever the type M bumper(super clean) when molded left Jason (theman) sadler with stress lines. most molded kits i see like this. while it is really hot. and that bumper was ment to fit....
good luck!
remember:
standing out in a crowd is easy to do. (rice muffler, intakes, lights, etc)
standing out in a crowd looking nice is hard.
