Weird problem with 99 i30

Ok, this car has had water damage so I want any ideas anyone can think of that could be wrong. I CAN get the car to run but it isn't very easy. The main thing I am noticing is that the injectors and fuel pump are running continuously when the car isn't running. What could cause this, other than a bad ECU? I assume the fuel pump runs continuously because the injectors are going but could the injectors just go because of too much pressure in the rails? Could it be a bad sensor somewhere telling the injectors to keep going? What is the grey connector that is back by cyl 1 with about 8 wires for? Thanks for any help.

Water damage? How long ago?

With water damage you essentially have to disconnect EVERY connector in the electrical that was submerged and spray it out. The connectors have moisture seals. So, when submerged they fill with water and start corroding. You can dry the car out in an oven and the moisture INSIDE the connectors will stay sealed in!

I wouldn't even hook the battery up until ALL of the ECU related connections had been cleaned. You might have a bad ECU now.... the only way to find out is clean up the connectors and see what happens.

btw, the gray connector you refer to near cyl 1 is the harness for the rear bank of injectors, the rear 02 sensor, and rear coil bank.

Also, how do you know the injectors are ON all the time? did you pull them to test?

I would try a new ECU.. your fuel pump and injectors staying on with the ignition off are probly the results of a short somewhere.. My car has had water damaged too by the way.

mass air flow sensor is really supseptable to water damage. And run the ecu for codes. And +1 to pulling all the electrical connections and drying them out

Thanks for all the replies. The injectors will run when the key is turned to on even if the motor isn't running. Not if the ignition is off. I can hear them clicking in order and feel the fuel running through the line out of the filter into the rails. I am going to try using my MAF from my 96 max on it tomorrow and drying the connectors like you have said. Can I use a connector cleaning spray on them or should I use my heat gun? It is probably the ecu though cuz the seatbelt light will not go out.

Actually, if someone could respond with the #'s for testing the MAF and the Crankshaft position sensor (REF) using a multimeter that would be helpful.

The fuel injectors can't pulse in order without signals from the cam & crank sensors. If the engine isn't spinning, the injectors can't be spray.
Your probably hearing the IACV ticking away. It's common that this device makes noise when the key is turned on and the engine isn't running. The fuel pump should come on for a second when the key is turned on, then turn back off until the engine is started. At that point it should run constantly.

No, I am telling you. The fuel pump continues to run and I know its the injectors cuz I have listened to them in order 1-6. So I should look at the camshaft sensor too? Thanks.
