Got new rims...should I re-use existing tires or get new ones?
I got in a new set of rims for my I30, and they are the same diameter as my current rims. The current rims are good for 4 season use, and 2 of them are in great shape for winter driving. They are already mounted and balanced. 2 are 95% new, the others 50-75%.
I have the $ for new tires, though I would not mind saving a few bucks. If I transfer the tires over I have to at least pay for mounting and balancing (I pay that whether I transfer or buy new). I woudl likely wear these out in a year or so of all-season driving, or I can keep these on my "winter" rims and buy new tires for 3-season use. These tires are "okay" as far as performance. My choice for 3-season tires comes highly recommended- the Falken Ziex Ze-512.
What would you guys recommend?
Oh yeah, I can also get a set of dedicated winter tires (gently used Blizzaks) for $80 for the "winter" rims either way- jury is still out on that decision.

yeah, don't waste the perfectly good tires. I agree with Chillin'.
Also, the Falken Ziex 512's= great 3-season tires.

Also, I was in Hawaii for work and have been busy since returning.
So bruce, you agree w/ chillin' yet you praise the 512s...that makes me want them MORE!

My older brother has the 512's(or maybe has had them in the past), and they are very good performing for how many seasons they can be used.
If you just wanted some really sticky tires, I would get the Falken Azenis Rs(or something like that) with the large patches of tread on them like a motorcycle. They are really sticky, but will not last near as long as the 512's.
I agree with chillin' because I have been riding on Sear's special all season tires for over a year, just because they guy I got the car from had just put them on there, and I didn't want to waste the rubber.

the 512's are nice, but i think you should save a couple bucks until they burn out. That way if you change your mind in the future you'll still have the cash.
i am partial to my decision because i am dead broke, so if i were in your shoes, i would save a couple bucks =o)
