I'm looking to buy a new maxima, either a 95-96 style or a 97-99 style. I know a taillight is a small thing to keep someone from buying a certain car and not another, but all I can't seem to find 95-96 red/clearlights like the 97-99 style, I can only find altezza's, and I don't want my car to have those. I looked at a picture of a 96 vs. a 97 rear end and the tailights look to be the same size cut-outs from the trunk. I also realize the 97-99's have the reverse in the bottom outside corners as opposed to the 95-96's that have the reverse on the inside top corners but if you purchased the 97-99 clear/red's couldn't you be able to just switch the bulb harnesses so they go in the correct holes on the new tail's? I know you cant just change the bulbs b/c your reverse lights may turn on when you brake or signal a turn. But couldnt you re-wire it SOMEHOW? So my question is can you buy the 97-99 clear/red tailights and install them on a 95-96 with just some re-wireing to do? I hope this all makes sense to someone. Thanks!

Harnesses and the electrical stuff is the same. Only difference is the inner light. The lense that is connected to the trunk is thinner in the 97-99 than the 95-96. They could fit but you'd need to do some modifications to the trunk lid or you could of course just get another trunk lid.
