stock Y-pipe, anyone hollow out their pre-cats?

I'm wondering if anyone has hollowed out their pre-cats. Would the power gains be similar to an aftermarket Y-pipe? How would the noise be on a stock exhaust? I know aftermarket Y-pipes are the way to go, but this could be a $0 mod with interesting results.

i did

I got the stilen b and y pipe and a random tech cat, so the only stock part was the pre cat before the y-pipe, I just took it out, and broke the "honey comb" type insides. I didn't notice a difference, maybe good for a few ponies, but not many. Even with the random tech cat i am worried that i may not pass emissions here in CT.

where is the pre-cat?

and cats are expensive i found out, 748 dollars at the dealership, i think i will not hollow mine out, but the pre-cat maybe... maybe... oh yah what and where is the precat.
oh yah drummer, how did it sound?
