Strange noise in trunk when I go over bumps, cant get rid of it, help!
Well I've had this noise for a while and I recently bought some sticky foam tape stuff and used it in various places in the trunk that could produce noise, like the wood thing that goes over the spare tire, the jack comparment and some parts under the rear speakers. Now this noise will not go away even after all that. It's only when I go over bumps (not the small ones). It sounds like something banging against something and I can't figure out where its coming from. Has anyone had the same problem?

i have that noise, haven't been able to get rid of it either and it's usually only if i have people or lots of junk in my trunk. someone suggested it was the b-pipe hitting underneath which it could be, but everytime i've had my car on a lift, we checked it out and still couldn't figure it out. it's like a thud type noise right??

i know its not things i have in the trunk, backpack for exmaple, because ive taken everything out of the trunk, including the spare tire and all that crap and it still makes the noise. im guessing it has to be the rear deck. im gonna get more of that foam and get thicker stuff and pad the entire rear deck, ill do this next weekend i guess

I am in the middle of car stereo installation, and I've been driving around without the rear seats in the car for two days when I haven't been performing the install. This thump you are speaking of is the trunk lid coming down hard and bouncing back up. If you take a look in the audio forum on the Org, there's a thread about it. If you push on your trunk, you can feel the verticle play there, about a 1/4 inch. To fix this you would need the trunk lid to loose this distance of play.
Hope this helps.
PS. Don't know anything about a chirp...

Will, it might have something to do with the jack in the area where you store it.
Here's what I would try:
Get the jack there where it is supposed to be, and then twist the little thing(that expands it if you were really using it on your car) until it expands tight on the compartment. This stopped mine from knocking around.
**NOTE: it is pretty difficult to turn, but well worth it.**

i think that bosa1 is right. I've been having the same problem with sounds from the trunk as well. I went outside to check on my trunk and when you press the trunk down (when closed) it makes a "creek" sound.
It's driving me crazy! The sound makes me feel like i'm driving a POS around.

This happened to me for the longest time as well.
I figured out that the trunk lid would actually move ever so slightly going over bumps. By looking at the spoiler, I could see it barely move when I reached a set of bumps.
I solved the problem by moving the actual trunk latch on the car frame down 1/16". That solved it. Many people around here have had the same problem and I have helped them there as well....

also bars that help the trunk to open that span from one side of the trunk lid to the other they are held up by a cheap ole plastic clip when it break off the decklid those will sometimes bang against things as well.

I guess you could always just try to tighten down everything in the trunk too.
I mean:
spoiler
bars in trunk
move the latch as suggested
etc...

try moving the latch down as mentioned. also, if u have recently removed ur rear seat, make sure that the hooks are positioned properly against the steel frame behind the rear seat. one of my hooks wasn't in right, and it would make the weirdest noise good luck

I had a noise in the back, thought it was coming form the trunk, for a long time. It turned out one of the shocks had become loose and came off. The rear ride was really bad too. I took it back to the dealer to hav ethem look at it. I had to convince the dealer to look at it from under the car, he was convinced it was a rattle somewhere in the trunk. The mechanic lifted it up and found the shock just hanging there. He fixed it at no charge.
This might be far from what you have, but if the ride is bad, especially over bumps, maybe it's worth checking.

I had a knocking noise too when I went over speed bumps, or something hard like that... I thought it was my back right strut mount, because it sounded like the strut was actually bouncing up and down and knocking, but I couldnt ever figure it out.... I'm hoping when I put my suspension on this weekend, I can find the problem out....Hope you get yours figured out as well..

Trunk Noise
I had a noise like you're describing...it turned out to be these lgihtweight support bars that run from speaker to speaker in the upper part of the trunk. A small piece of plastic kept them from hitting each other but it broke so I shoved something in there to keep them apart and that fixed it...been meaning to get the actual part but haven't yet.

"On Some Maxima vehicles there may be a slight rattle noise from the rear of the vehicle when going over bumps. The exhaust heat shield may be contacting the spare tire well or the exhaust heat shield may be broken."
This was from a Technical Service Bulletin.

I know you guys have discussed the jack, but have you tried totally removing the jack and hardware, then driving around?
I had an annoying metallic squeak (probably different from the sound you're hearing) for months - finally, while driving around over speed bumps in a parking lot, I had a friend stick his head through the rear-seat pass-through to narrow down where the sound was coming from. It was probably quite a sight to see, but we found the squeak! It was the jack and bracket that holds it in...

I had the same prob, but I found it. It was the cable I had in the right side of trunk behind the carpet stuff. Just pull it back and take it out or move it around so that it will stop. (Beside taillight)

ahhh!! ive got the same problem with my car i just always assumed it is my aftremarket muffler hitting the body of the car, over time i have gotten used to it considering my car rides bumpy as **** due to the 18's and stiff suspension ive got...maybe ive been wrong maybe its not the muffler?????

i love my max.. but this is the 1 problem i noticed with teh maxima.. lots of sounds when u drop the car.. my friend has a 94 gsr.. dropepd on coil overs(stiffer than my springs) and there isnt one creek, crack, bang or anything while driving.. i have so many noises im giving up on finding them. jsut bump the stero up. haha..
anyway, good luck finding it. might be blown rear strut/spring mount? spring clang from worn out spring insulators?
i mean if you took everything out of the trunk and it still makes a noise.. cant be much else.

I got it because I wanted it. Dont be ragging me when you see cars like mustangs or camaros or something like that going down the road with them. Atleast gtrs are made by nissan and not chevy or ford. And besides we all put things on our cars that dont really belong or come on them right???

I too have this clicking noise coming from rear right for 2 years when car is driving over any rough surface and I still have not be able to find what it is, brake pads and rotors are new, struts and springs are replaced with coil overs a year ago, jack removed, spare tire removed, noise is still there. I am going to check the trunk latch.

Check that the ends of the bolts that attach your license plate to the rear bumper cover are not hitting the metal of the bumper when going over bumps. You can shorten the bolts or drill holes in the bumper where they hit.
