exhuast wrap?

ive been told exhaust wrapping the ypipe can eliminate some bees-in-the-can sound but will the wrap quiet down the whole exhuast system (ypipe +cat + catback)?

the thing is, that site warned against installing it on headers. is the y-pipe temp cooler than the headers? what if just the flex section was wraped, would that cause problems? are there any pipes that dont make noise? which pipes are direct bolton, i've heard you have to notch the warpspeed one to clear something.

I think its probably ok to wrap the flex but I wouldn't do the Y if it was mine.

Also remember that any warranty will be void if it fails while wrapped.

Dallas from warpspeed sent me a exhaust hanger for the y pipe. My y pipe rattles pretty bad, sounds like someones shaking up an ice maker. Do you think it will help? It rattles at the flex section and i put a new high flow cat on there so the oem heatshield is not needed. My question is, where in the hell do i put this? I took some time to take pics and research it. Any feedback would be great! (Sorry to ***** up the thread)

(I used Kevin's pic of his ypipe to give you an idea of where i think the exhaust hanger needs to be swapped out with the stock one)

looks like its supposed to go through the rubber hangers and on the ypipe right before the flange that meets the ypipe and the cat conv

i need to make one of those, how long are the hanger rods on that clamp?

I heard that wraps lessen the life of your exhaust because the metal gets so hot it will eventually crumble, or get rusted a lot faster.

I would think that moisture and salt would also get trapped against the metal causing it to rust.

he said $14 when i asked him when i first got the pipe, thats why id rather tell someoen to do it for me for free, you see the rubber hanger in the picture you posted, stick the rod into there, and put the clamp on the end of the ypipe where its going to the catalytic converter, im going to give dallas a call
http://www.skippynet.com/maxima/o2.htm

where the ypipe ends and goes to the cat convertor, look at that pic

I assume that you know you need a jack because you won't be getting very far if your the size of an average human. I would agree that wrapping reduces the exhausts durability in a northern climate. In a southern area this wouldn't be a problem and the performance gains could outweight the reduction in life of the pipe. I found that all my bees in a can noise was cause by the heat sheiding being slightly loose and vibrating. I removed all the heat sheilding in the exhaust corridor and the noise is now gone. I recomend doing this first and if the noise still exists go to the next step with wrap.
