Transmission leaks

I have a 96 Maxima with 98,000 miles on it and I have had it in the shop four times for a leak in the Transmission. They have replaced the drive shaft two times and they now say that it is some baring that is bad. So they say that they should take out the Transmission and replace the barings and since we are in there we should replace the clutch.
Does this sound like the thing to do or should I have some one ells look at it.

Thank you for your help

Sounds like your differential carrier bearings may be bad. There's a big section in the FAQ on this. Not sure about the clutch, but you can check the state of the bearings by getting under your car and checking how much play there is in the driveshaft. By most accounts, if you can lift up the shaft a bit and tranny fluid starts leaking out, you have a classic case of worn differential bearings.

Sounds like it's diagnosed properly. I don't know if I'd have Nissan do it, though.

I called my dealership and asked them if they reshim the bearings when they put them in...they said: "We don't put new shims in; we just use the original ones"

If they don't reshim it properly, the bearing will fail again.

PS - You might as well get the clutch done when the tranny is out.

dude i have the same problem with mine. Its definetely the Differential bearings and if you know anything about taking the trany out i would do it. im taking it out my self so they are charging me 250 for the bearings to be put in with warranty. As far as the clutch i would look at it first and see how thorn up it was. Mine had about 110 when i changed it and it was in pretty bad shape so i got the Clutch Masters Fx300 and i love it.
