Question about the trunk

I recently installed a sub in my trunk (single 12"). My problem is that it keeps sliding around back there, and the only holding in place is the wiring. I will check it every once in awhile and it keeps working is way toward the rear of the car, putting pressure on all the wiring. Is there any way of keeping it from moving? I thought about putting an extra board under the carpet toward the rear bumper to level out the slope of the floor more. Anyone else have the same problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I used to have this problem a while ago . .I fixed it . there is a downside to it though. What I did was I used a heavy-duty "L" bracket (x2) and bolted it down to the wood that is above the spare tire. It does not budge, no matter how hard I drive or what bumps I hit. Because of this the spare tire is a little more of a chore to access. Fortunetly I havent had to check if I could get the spare tire out, but if worse comes to worse, I could snap the board.

well, the way I did it was pretty ghetto. I had 2 12"s and they kept sliding around too, and that was a big box. I drilled an eye bolt into the front of the box and ran a black bungee cord from the bars accross the top of the trunk that work with the trunk opening and closing, through the eye bolt, and back up. I don't know if ya wanna do that, but it worked for me.

I know someone else with a large sub box in the trunk and they also used the L-bracket to bolt to the floor of the trunk.
True, it does make it a lot more difficult to get to the spare, but you can just unbolt it if an emergency.
Price you pay to have subs, I guess.

I used an "L" bracket as well. But now I built a MDF floor and that's keeping it in place pretty well

I had this problem too. I put rubber padding between the board & carpet, plus the carpet & box. That worked good for me. Just use some two sided tape to help the rubber stay in place.

I have a custom floor (raised @ 2 inches) in my trunk so subs actually sit in floor and top of amp is flush with carpet. The L brackets is most common or u can screw in eyewhole screws to back of box and tie string/bungie box to back of seats

if you're worried about the spare, just carry around a can of fix-a-flat, unless you completely blow your tire out, then you're screwed. i still need to anchor down my subs, have 2 10s and a 12 in one big azz box and it keeps slidin around.

Fix-a-flat is crap!
Do not put that stuff in your tire!
It will mess it up and you will never be able to balance it right again.

believe me, i know. i hate balancing tires that have fix-a-flat in them. but in an emergency situation that you can't get to your spare, that's the only chance you have other than calling a tow truck.

L braket, just drill a couple holes through the metal plate between trunk and interior with the rear seat out and mount it that way. It's clean and out of the way.

I use some very high strength velcro between the carpet and the box. The box hasn't moved since I put it on there, it's pretty easy to get off if you want to get to the spare, and the best part is that it takes all of 10 seconds to put the velcro on, none of that drilling stuff.

I have a wood bar going across the very front of my trunk, and the sub enclosure is screwed on to that

Sounds like the best solution, at least for a start. Where did you get the velcro?

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm with "bosa1"..... but I made it even simpler.... added a "L" bracket to the top of the box and use 2 self drilling screws to attach the bracket to metal behind the rear seat.....the box does not move... and by pushing the subs up under the rear deck I have some trunk space left

Michael's, it's a big crafts store around here. Any crafts/fabric type store should have some, even some big home improvement places like home depot might, but I'm not sure.
