Friend suggested MIXING gas octanes. This safe??
Hey guys. I was tellin my friend how the high gas prices are really killin me. I have to put in 93 octane premium gas because they don't sell 91 octane where I live. My friend had this idea... Why not get half 89 octane and half 93 octane whenever I fill my tank? Logically, this WOULD save money. I was just wondering what your takes were on the subject. Is it safe for the car? Thanks.

Sure its safe for the car...the question is if its really worth the effort... lets say you fill up weekly - approx. 16 gallons when my low gas light comes on - so lets say you get 8 gallons of 93 and 8 gallons of 89 - thats 80 cents savings per filllup - or about 50 bucks a year... not worth the hassle to me - since if you use a credit card at the pump - I think you'll have to do it as two seperate transactions...

use common sense, one just has less part per million octane than the other, mixing it will just give you an avg of the two because its just the amount of octane that differs and nothing else, which is obviously safe
