another evap thread

I have seen alot of threads poppin up lately relating to the evap system, but I still have a couple of questions. I am getting codes 07 - 05, and 09 - 03. Evap control system, and evap canister vent control valve.

I got a 5 day tag so I need it to get inspected asap, and won't be able to get parts in time to fix it. If i reset the ecu it the check engine light goes out, but will come back in a day or so. Will it pass emissions just by clearing the code temporarily? This is for RI by the way... dont know if they do an obd scan or what...

Also, I need to find out the exact part numbers for what I need for the 96'.

thanks for any help!!!

Why don't you clean it --look in the faq on how to clean it. No need to be a smart as$ on the boards. If you need help I am 30 minutes away from you.

heh, sorry if i sounded like a smart ***... I have checked it out and everything looks fine with it. I am just going to replace it so I dont have any more problems, but I have searched and searched and not found the part number for the valve. I was hoping since I have seen alot of threads related to the evap system lately someone would know the part numbers... thanks anyways.

I need the same part, and I too cannot find the right P/N. I was told by a dealer that the 2-part system (canister and the valve) are now 4 parts. Of course, noone knows for sure. What a mess.

I definately need to find out the P/N as it applies to my 97 I30. SOME 1997 I30s are based on 96 maxima parts, some are based on 97. VIN is needed to decode the right parts, but the dealers STILL cannot figure it out.

I took out the cannister under the gas door near the tank. Only a few bolts and hoses on there. I cleaned it out with a coat hanger and carb cleaner. Reset my cel and been happy for 8 months now. Again---take it out and clean it. Takes 10 minutes. No need to jack up the car or remove wheel either. IF you really want a new unit--why are you posting here over and over again when you can call the dealer and get your price or order it. They will give you the part number as well if you want to cross shop it.

Some people have been fine with cleaning it, and others have not. Trying to find the 10 minutes + time to get the carb cleaner is actually very tough for me lately. I would rather order the part, then when I get it take 5 minutes to replace it. And it would be new... which for some reason matters to me more than it should i suppose... I am posting here over and over again since the dealer can not give me a straight answer, and anytime I have had a problem with the max the .org has been the best and easiest place to look. I guess it is worthless since nobody knows the part number. I will just stop asking, and let this thread die...

Hey phen, if I can find the number I'll let you know.

I went to clean it, but the part was SOOOOO dried out that the plunger split when I went to lubricate it. Also, I cannot just replace the VCV because one of the the screws/bolts that allows it to seperate from the canister has stripped out and the bolt spins but does not come out of the cannister itself.

that sucks.... i am going to try to get a few minutes out of work tomorrow and give it a shot. Have you tried any junkyards yet? I think I will have to do that if cleaning it doesnt work, since the part number is a pia to find.

Well, the problem there is that I cannotconfirm compatibility from one year to another, AND that some 1997 I30s are based on 96 maxima systems while others are based on 97. The 97 I30 is a frankenstein.
