help quick! red gummy stuff on my brakes?!
im cleaning my calipers/brakes in preparation for painting. i already did the rear one and that was great. however, on my front brakes, i had this red gummy stuff all over. looks like red gum. there was a lot between the caliper and the brake pad.
the stuff started dissolving when i sprayed brake cleaner at it, so i ripped it all off and cleaning it all up. what is that stuff? is it safe for me to paint my calipers, or should i be doing something first?
my cars up on the jack right now! help!

It's anti-squeal compound that goes between the caliper and pad. The last person/shop probably got a little too generous with it. I'd get it all off because if you paint over it, the stuff will eventually peal off and make your paint job look crummy. Good luck!!
