Hi... if ur active in the 5th gen groups... u know I was going to Lease a 2k max... however, after much deliberation, I've decided I don't like the idea of "renting" a car for 3 years and having nothing at the end.
Therefore, I've decided to "settle" for a 97 or 98 Max... I'm looking to get a 97 or 98 SE or GLE...
(my second reason... this way I can afford Leather, sunroof, BOSE & Auto Temp)
anyhow...
I saw a 97 SE with 32k miles, Pearl White, Gold Package, Sunroof, Wood Trim, BOSE, ATC, leather... for $18,495... what is the best haggled down price you think I should be able to get for this??
Does $16,000-$16,500 sound anywhere plausible??

Consider how long you're going to keep it. Part of the advantage of a lease is also that you have nothing at the end, so no negative equity either. Myself, I can't own a car more than 4 years, I get bored with it and start hungering for something new. So, with a lease, I may not ever own a car, but I can drive more car for my money and not have to worry about taking a bath when I'm ready to buy a new one.

So it all depends on what you really want out of the car

 

True, but you do realize that you pay alot less payments overall in the 3 year period while not having a car at the end, right???

The theory is:
If you gonna keep a car until it can't run no more, buy it.
If you gonna change every few years, lease it. You lose more money buying in this case.

 

I purchased a 97 SE with all the extra's you've mentioned here for 16,000 a year and half ago. same specs on mileage too. Black book value is around 14 to 15. But prices vary depending on where you are. Hope this helps.
