So I was at autozone earlier today to have the battery load tested, turned out the battery was fine, however the tech who did the test stated that my alternator was peaking out at half the normal readings and advised me that my alternator is going bad, I don't have battery & brake lights on yet, and I replaced the alternator under the recall 2 years ago and told the tech on this, so do you guys think the alternator is going bad again and is causing my cold starts to go weak? If so, would I still be eligible for another free alternator from the recall?

 

yes because they use remanufactured ones i do believe, take it back to the fockers and make sure u dont take NO for answer

 

I dont know - AutoZone vs. Nissan alternator....there may be an issue by you getting it from the Zone

 

I had the alternator replaced from the dealership 2 yrs. ago, but earlier today I had the load test done at AutoZone and the tech from AutoZone advised me my alternator was going bad, so would I still be eligible for another alternator at no-cost from the dealer b/c of the recall? And do the dealerships use remanufactured alternators in this recall or are they an all-new unit?

 

Dealerships PROBALY do use remanufactured parts. I wouldnt doubt it.

If you got the reciepts....try it. But dont hold your breath for dealership customer service...

 

i have this problem to.....i trie to get them to replace it again or at least look at it and they wanted $105.XX to just look at it when it was there ****ing mistake. i might just go up to a high output, cause i am tired of this ****.

 

Well I would think that they would replace it only if the cause was due to faulty diodes which is why the recall happened in the first place. If something else was the cause like another part or something thats not related to the recalled then probably not.

 

i bought an alternator a not to long ago thinking that it was bad b/c my ebrake and battery light went on, but then mechanic told me that i had no alternator belt. so all i had to do is buy another belt and i have an extra alternator. if anyone wants to buy it let me know

I got my 98 gxe how do i know if my alternator needs to be recalled? It seems to be in tip top shape as my system never dims anything but just wondering?

COuld it maybe be more than 110amps? or replaced or need replacing?

 

go to nissan and give them your VIN# and they can look it up to see if its under the recall. Mine was and when my alternator went bad (faulty diodes), it started to make a whining noise really loud but it still worked up to the day I got it changed out.

 

if its working well i wouldnt get it replaced, they will probably put in a remanufactured part that may go bad again

Recently, I bought a '97 Maxima. Sweet little car! Just recently, the alternator light started coming on. Had the electrical system checked out at two different auto parts stores and they concluded the same thing - faulty diode.

Presuming the alternator is original to the car (what are the chances?) would it still qualify to be replaced under the terms of the recall? It would certainly help my already overburdened budget out!

Appreciate any thoughts.

Call a dealer, give them your VIN, they'll tell you whether or not you are even in the VIN group for the recall, and if it's ever been done before.

It's a recall, they should still do it assuming it hasn't been done on your car before, and that you actually qualify for it.
