Automatic Transmission fluid replacement

How much automatic transmission fluid do the 4th generation max's need? I couldn't find this info in the FAQ's, how-to's or even the haynes book (it says to measure what drains out...very informative). Lots of info for manuals out there, but not much for autos.

Also, should I bother getting the Nissan D-matic fluid, or will the dexron III/mercon fluid work fine?

Thx

Doug, it depends on how you're changing the fluid. I detached the return line from the tranny cooler to the transmission and put the end in a bucket. Run the car until about 2 quarts drains out. Go add 2 quarts to the filler neck and repeat. I was happy after 5 goes (about 10 quarts). At that point, my tranny was full of oil and was running clear. Doing it this way, you won't need to know the exact capacity.
