Ok so I'm talking to a couple of mecahnics in the local restaruant and they were thelling me some stuff I did not want to hear about mods. They dont have a problem with wheels, lowering springs, interior stuff. They were only talking about engine mods, like cai, ecu mods, superchargers, that kind of stuff. They said sure you get more power and your car will go faster but in 9 out of 10 cases your car wont last as long either. They said they see so many maf go out because of cai, and one guy saw recently a warpedhead on a honda becasue of overly low restrictive exhaust. This makes me wonder sre mods worth it.

LOL, thats great stuff a warped head from a high flow exhaust...

All power adders do detract from the life of motor internals. IF YA WANA PLAY, YOU GOTTA PAY!

I was serious about the warped head

He said the guy did not even have a cat. It warped because of different temps, or maybe it was different pressure at each cylinder. I cant remember what the exact cause was but I believe him. He went into a very deep conversation which I did not really understand.

Plus the fact that you usually drive a modded car harder. But the VQ is a stout motor that can handle lots of hard driving. The bottom ends are already built up to a level that racers build motors to. Put on only proven mods, not cheap second rate stuff. To me, its worth it.

Yup, I agree, I have friends that are mechanic's.
They tell me the same thing. The more performance mods you put on the shorter the life of your car. But that's with any car not just imports. Some engine's handle it better than others, but its mostly how hard you drive your car, both stock and mod'd.

But yup if shorting the life of my car is the price I have to pay for speed then hell yeah I'll do it. I'm not planning on drag racing my car, probably autocross only. And save up for a Supra to make into a race car exclusively. Because my maxima is also my daily driver.

Not necessarily. If you have massive mods but still drive the car sanely, then the engine should last a very long time. Bozo mods of course can do alot of harm. ie.. honda boy other there.

Intelliegent mods make the engine more efficent, therefore make the engine work easier to keep a certain speed, as well as make the engine have more power.

IMHO, the overriding factor in engine life is in how you maintain and treat your engine.
