It's true, can you better 212,000 on the stock clutch, city/highway all conditions, I never do anything to this car, can't kill it, use mobil one from new, runs beautifully. Just looks like crap now.

 

I had a 93 pathfinder that i traded in on my max and it had 169k with the oem clutch and still had tons of life in her left.

 

What can one reasonably expect out of a clutch if the car is driven say 75% highway and not like its been stolen. I have 53,000 miles on mine. My brakes have still got a lot of life in them. I can't see touching them until at least 75,000 miles because I don't use them and downshift when possible.

 

my clutch went out at 117k only because i took it to the track and raced it all the time.brakes i just replaced at 110k still looked good to..

 

My clutch went out at 112 but i got it at 108k and the clutch was good but i guess my maniac driving skills killed it. Well damn thats awesome 212k on a stock clutch.

wow, I must be hard on clutches. All three cars I've had, the clutches have gone out, I'll never buy an auto!
91 Toyota truck - clutch went at 99,000mi
98 GMC Sonoma ZR2 - clutch was toast at 111,000mi
and then I fried the clutch on my Maxima at 100,000mi

What about TO bearings? Ever had to replace those? Mine died at 110K, but clutch still was in decent shape.

 

If I were you, I would not be worrying so much about using the brakes. It is a lot cheaper to replace the brakes if they get worn out than it is to replace the clutch/tranny/TO bearing that might come earlier from a ton of downshifting when not necessary.
Don't get me wrong, I do it when I am really driving....but not just all the time. I mean, if you are not really racing around a corner or anything, you should not need to down shift all the way down.

I guess if you rev match, it is not that bad for the tranny or clutch.
That is what I do anyway.

 

My downshifting I mean driving in the city and slowing down from 40 mph to ease up to a red light by going from 4th to 3rd to 2nd gently. Then if necessary I just tap the brakes as I approach the last car at the light.

 

I am aware of what downshifting is.
I am just saying that is a little more wear and tear on your tranny than it needs, if it is not necessary to get back into traffic. Just trying to give you a warning and heads-up.

 

No joke,
I never slip the clutch except for a small take up in 1st, I never floor the gas unless it is fully engaged, I always match the rpm to the speed necessary.

The TO bearing is stock original, I attribute the longevity to 2 things,
1. I never leave the car in gear at lights
2. I disconnected the ignition kill switch on the clutch pedal, that is to say, when I start the car I never dump the clutch. I did that from new.

I drive the snot out of this car, and do plenty of town?hill driving. Just being careful does it.

Now front tires, that is a different issue

 

I mean his comment was joke or not. Autos don't have clutch, they have Torque Converter.
