By pass KS?

I mean, the ks is there to prevent predetonation and if it happens(since you bypassed the ks), couldn't you potentially hurt or cause your engine to fail?

Presumably, people do this for short term testing purposes only.

Did u just tape on the resistor?
I tried this, after going through 3 KS's and still getting the code. I went to radio shack and got a 470k resistor, taped it in place, and everything was working great.... until I tried to go up a hill and got some knock. Even with 92 octane, the engine would knock. I guess my elevation is too high (7000').

Thanks for clearing that up.
Continue about your merry way...ha ha
Works fine for me, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone without a 99 California spec car. The rest of you guys should be able to replace the ks as soon as you have the $$... I'd need significantly more time/money to do so sinc i have extra cali. emissions hardware...
I was thinking about doing this when my KS went bad. I replaced my knock sensor instead. Then read about these guys racing Altima's that mount the KS on the firewall. Does the same thing as bypassing it but you can always put it back on the block if you get ping ponging!
I mounted mine on the intake plenum and did a poor mans CAI on my filter box to bring the intake air temp down. NO KNOCKS and lots of power with 28mpg hwy doing 80mph all the way.
Of course, EVERYTHING else on my max is tuned to perfection so don't mess around with the knock sensor until you have everything else right.

Here's a little secret, engines knock almost all the time. Use 93 all you want but that stil doesn't STOP knock. There is VERY MILD knock almost all the time but it's not enough to damage anything. The audible knock stephen max described is the **** that you should be affraid of.

so this is the resistor you used ?

1M ohm 1/4W 5% Carbon Film Resistor pk/5
$0.99 Brand: RadioShack
Catalog #: 271-1356 Model: 271-1356
Yeah I just found out my KS went no wonder my gas milage sucks, I don't know what's better running with resistor, or running rich and making my O2s prolly burning out faster. BTW I always run on 93 octane.
Oh yeah do J30t use KS, and is it comparable to a maxima one? Or 3rd gens?
What other cars have comparable KS, I think 93-99 altimas and 95-99 sentras, but anything else that has one that will work with maxima.

edit- i found this links it shows it really but not the same as speakers http://www.electronics2000.co.uk/calc/calcrsp.htm

Okay..Let me get this straight..we disconnect the wiring harness thats attached to knock sensor end? or the other end?.and also,,did you connect each 1m resistor to each other?, or both resistors on one pin?
in my opinion its much easier to connect things in series than in parallel... esp when you dont want to worry about soldering things. I went and bought the big pack of resistors from radio shack, and then asked one of the geeks there to pick out a 220 and 330 k ohm resistor from the package. i then connected them together in series and had him test that it was indeed 550 kohm's with his multitester. i then just went out, inserted it into the car, and wrapped more electrical tape to hold it in place... all in all, it was a very pleasant experience, to bad i didnt have a beautiful blonde helping me instead of the geek...
You shouldn't run the resistor for more than a couple weeks. Not having any kind of protection against knock, especially in the summer, is stupid. Get some $$ together and buy a KS cause in the long run getting a new engine will cost more.
