no codes, and reset check engine still comes up. One thing i did notice was that when i actually pulled the e break the Break light got a little brighter. If it is the alternator, how much time do i have?

About as long as it takes to drain your battery. Not very long, maybe 25 miles?

Check your brake fluid level. The brake light will come on if its low.

Ok, so new alternater...I checked out car-parts.com, roughtly 100 bucks for one, then i called up a shop around here and they quoted me 160 for the install. That seem high, low? I've got no clue, but im assuming this isnt a DIY'er

I don't know where you got that price for alternator. All the ones that I have seen are more than that.

**That might be just for a 99, as they are a little different on some of that stuff than the older ones. Just trying to give you a heads up.**

**I would install yourself. It should not be too hard, because the alternator is right in front.

i had the same thing happen to me exactly a week ago. it's your alternator. it cost me $460 and change for it with the install. that's with a 10% discount too. don't drive your car at all until it's time to take it to a garage.

Hello there!!

I had the same problem you have about 2 weeks ago. my battery and ebrake light went on. everyone here told me i needed a new alternator, so i went aheade and bought a new one. Once the alternator finally arrived i was getting ready to change it myself(it doesn't seem to hard). so i start looking for the belt..hhhmm.... there's no belt!!! so that was my problem there was no belt there. so now i have an alternator and can't return it .... but dont make the same mistake i did. CHECK YOUR BELTS before you buy anything. good luck..
if you want a cheap stock alternator aim me at vq352k

danman700, since your max is a '97, why not get one for free from your dealer? There is an alternator recall on '97 & '98 Max's manufactured from 2/97 to 2/98 that are affected by this recall, so check your manufacture date on your door jamb
