Is replacing the antenna motor difficult?

As my user name implies I have a 1997 SE. The antenna motor died and the dealer wants a ton of cash to fix it.

Are there any guides to doing this and is it difficult? I had a look at it the other day and it doesn't seem like it would be too hard, just time consuming.

Thanks.

Easy to do... here are some instructions:

If the motor still works, you do not have to remove it from the vehicle to just replace the antenna mast...

I just replaced my mast last week. Had to pull the whole unit because the retainer was seized in the antenna body. Actually had to pick it out in pieces. New mast on eBay was 11.99 - works great.

The whole thing is only held in with a coulple screws and the trim nut on the outside of the car. Less than a 5 min job to remove.

MAKE sure you take off the retaner nut that around the mast (outside of the car) and the plastic covering then proceed into the trunk!
Its very very simple, Use a 1/4 inch drive set with 10mm socket, Remove your inner siding of the car, take out the car jack/stand. Remove the bolt on the lower right side of the piece that holds that jack/stand in. then there will be 2 more across from that one towars the left side, and presto your done. Just make sure you unplug the power cable on the mast with the signal cable. Its less than a 5 min job. And the new one is just as fast.

The dealer said that the antenna mast is fine, it's the motor that died.

Thanks for the links and advice.

One more question. Do I have to remove the entire antenna and assembly if I am only replacing the motor?
