Question on your instructions for clearing out the rear tails. You mention that there is a red piece at the very end of the orange section that is held in by a screw. Got it. I looked at my lights the other day and noticed that the red piece is illuminated at night. How did I notice? Well one side is lighted and the other is not. Is there a bulb behind these red pieces? If so, did you leave your bulbs in or take them out? Thanks
BTW, for those who can't afford a one time buy of a heat gun Home Depot rents them.... $6 for 4hours and $8 for the day When I finally run down all the materials and get bulbs I'll start. Seen a lot on LEDs for the tails. Red ones. Sounds good. Are there any yellow LEDs to put in the rear tails once I do the clear mod???

FYI. There is no bulb behind that piece, it illuminates because its a reflector.

I read over the procedure and it seems like a major project. My biggest concerns would be getting the surface contours smooth like the originals, and making the seals waterproof (nothing worse for the look of a tail light than seeing water sloshing around inside!).

But you seem all set and ready to tackle it. Please keep us posted--I'm sure there are a few of us who'd be willing to try upon hearing your success.

GTR i think what Zagato was talking about is the red lens next to the turn signal on the outside taillights (visible mostly on the corner side of the car). And it is illuminated by a bulb that is accessible by removing the carpet inside the trunk directly behind the tail lights.

Umm I believe there is a small bulb behind that red piece. When I get home I'll look through my notes and check. I believe I just took the bulb out and let the socket hang. Since I took the piece out there is no need for the light behind it. I don't want a light running with my headlights down in the clear anyways.

Yup, that's the one. My guess is that there is a separate bulb since I've got one side that is illuminated and one side that isn't. Was wondering if you kept the bulb, left it out or what? Looks like Brian left it out. Can't decide whether or not to leave that red sliver in with the bulb or not. Know that Brian took it out. Might look ok with it in and a bulb illuminating it from behind. How about anyone else who's gone replaced the yellow in the tails? Did you leave the small red piece next to it or take it out like Brian?

What do you mean by surface contours? You mean prevent any warping of the lens when heating?

And I've noticed that the black seal on the outside of my tails is lightly wedged into the the lens, meaning its not sealed properly. So, i guess THAT is an excuse for me to do this mod soon huh?

I took the red piece out because I thought that it would be visible throught the acrylic lense. I also removed the bulb behind that small red lense and removed the size #194 wedge bulb. That light is only a driving light and doesn't serve me any purpose.
