STAND alone engine management

i am i rx7 owner. i have been looking at the maximas. and i have a friend that owns one. we were discussin EMSs and remapped chips. now with the 7 if you go standalone you have total control over everyfunction of fuel and air. and you can get better gains with a standalone for the fact that you can tune it to a specific car.
with a remapped ecu you can see some gains but not as much as with a standalone. for the fact that everycar is diefferent he was saying a remapped ecu would give you great gains and better spent money vs. a standalone. any info would be greatly appreciated as this is one of the few grey areas i have.
thans in advance

There is probably more absolute power to be gained with a stand alone system, but is that worth 2 - 3 times the cost of a remapped ECU?

Only you can answer that.

well my friend was saying that a remapped ecu from jim wolf was 750 and i know the LT-8 by microtech is about 1050 for the 7. so its not to bad as far as price goes. so the difference is not to much. please correct me if i am wrong.

Dont forget the time and cost to tune the car if u have a stand alone system. But the gains and the control it gives u is much more than a remapped ecu. I would go with a stand alone system if i had the time and cash and a fully built engine to take advantage of what the stand alones are capable of..

i know a guy who can tune a microtech and its cost 50 dollars for 3 pulls on every thurs. night. so that is not a problem. so do you need a fully built moder or can you take advantage of a standalone of a car with exhaust and intake.

Check out "Megasquirt". I have heard very good things about it & the price is reasonable. You can find many people who can build a system for you if the talent isn't there to complete the project yourself. Obviously stand alone fuel management is the way to go if you need to have that much control over the fuel injection system, but a remapped ECU program can be alittle more trouble free becuase most of the people who produce remapped ECU's have the time & money to make sure there product's perform decent enough. If you have the knowledge when it comes to fine tunning the fuel supply then stand alone is deffinitly IMOA the way to go. Another good thing about going with a stand alone system is you won't have to purchase piggy back type equipt to make additional adjustment's if needed or have to rely on a programmer to make new fuel map's for you, you have the control to make any adjustment needed. Good luck!!!
