washed engine now car won't start

I just washed the engine on my 95 maxima and now the car won't start. I know I should have covered the coils but I didn't. Does anybody knows what the problem could be or how long would it take to dry out before it starts.

i know people who wash the engine bay without covering anything except the battery. Did you cover anything? What sound does it make when it tries to start? does it atleast like turn over? Name the symptoms so we can help solve the problem.

It's probably not getting any spark. Let it sit with the hood open in the sun for 4-6 hours. When I was in High School I worked at a detailer and this happened all the time. Next time, use very light pressure with the water, you only need to rinse away the degreaser (degreaser is key to cleaning the engine, not water pressure). Good luck.

I had the same problem!
Let the car sit overnight, Hopefully your alternator didnt mess up. I had to replace mine. First check all the fuses, I had a blown fuse too.

This why you should never wash a motor. There are way too many potential electrical source areas that can be affected by any moisture. Spend an afternoon whipping and cleaning with a damp rag and a very light degreaser, if needed. After you do a really good job the first time then it's easy to clean up under the hood in about 10 minutes every other month or so.

That's what I did. Tedious, but nowhere near as risky.

That's the problem Dave. Doing it by hand takes a long time and no one has time anymore, it's always "what's the quickest most inexpensive way." And the result is this thread
