SMC Short Throw Shifter (where??)

I've been reading some peoples reviews and installation guides etc. for short throw shifters. I've seen that the courtesynissan (which i wouldnt want anyways) is of low quality and on occasion the weld has even broken on people while driving, and the generic one offered by custommaxima isn't up to par with others.

What I've seen is that most people like their SMC short throw shifters the best, and their writeups often contain things like "you can order it directly from SMC with free shipping" or "you can get it anywhere," and .. believe me, I'm a CS major and complete 'net geek ... finding obsolete things is what I do, and I can't for the life of me find one place selling or the manufacturers website for the SMC shifter.

I've found a few links to www.smc-products.com and www.s-m-c-products.com but neither are valid domains; any information to the whereabouts of a website selling it or perhaps an auto store that can order it for me (NAPA, DIY, Autozone whatever) would be greatly appreciated!

Don't quote me on this, but I heard somewhere that SMC went out of business a while back, like 2-3 years ago. But yah, it's a really popular STS for the 4th gen. Just really hard to find now. Try ebay. Every now and then, they'll be one, dirt cheap usually. But it's rare.

shame

well that's crappy news, thanks though.

anyone have a suggestion on the STS that they prefer in their 4th gen max? I guess I'll probably have to go with the one from custommaxima.

furthermore, should i bother changing to a hi-flow cat while im at it changing the shifter, since i remove the stock in the process anyways? I dont have any other major changes .. just k&n drop filter, plugs and the small things... don't know if just changing the cat will make any diff in of itself.

The only good suggestion you will hear from people is to get a B&M STS. Even though it may be expensive an non-height adjustable it is still a perfect STS shifter. They are top quality and in all the years ive been browsing through these forums I have yet to hear someone complain about theirs. B&M is about the only shifter I would get, that is if i could afford insurance on my max....
The ebay shifters are crap....too many people have came back on here complaining about the shifter breaking off....
B&M or broke...

I got the one from CustomMaxima, it's an alright shifter, it gets the job done reliably. So long as you find the adjustment you like best. I have mines set at 2/3-3/4 of the way up. Trust me if you have the money for the CM shifter, wait just a lil longer til u have enough for the B&M, it's that much worth it. The other option you have is cutting your factory shifter, but you won't get the short throws, just the look. My factory one, I chopped 1 3/4" and it looked lower than the way I have my CM shifter set, lol. Good luck
