engine revving "funny" ... thoughts?
I've had my 97SE 5spd for about 5 months now, just now getting into changing stuff after the winter and getting some money together.
It just hit about 60k (low for a '98 eh? i love it) and went about changing the belts... got some gatorbacks from autozone; took a look at where they were and decided it would be a headache in my shop (the street and a sidewalk) so i took it to meineke and let them do it in ~ 15 minutes. Now this is where it gets interesting; I waited probably a half hour before they installed and it took them 15-20 mins to do it; all in all about an hour passed with the engine barely running, so it got fairly cool (this comes into play later,) so when i left and went home it really didnt have a change to warm up much, and best i knew it ran better then ever.
It wasn't till later that I noticed the funny way it acts. Now when the engine is cold it idles around 1200-1300RPM, and everything is just dandy; you give it gas and it revs like normal. BUT, after the engine warms up and the idle goes down to 700-800 range, when you give it gas it "lags" and revs fairly slowly up to about the regular 1200-1500 RPM range and then acts perfectly normal; but not until the engine speeds have gotten into the higher range (coincidently the colder idle speed.)
I've been driving "around" the problem, simply keeping it above 1300 RPM... probably in an attempt to make myself feel like nothing is wrong, but also just seeing if maybe letting the belts settle/break in had anything to do with it.. but it's been probably 1k mi and no difference.
What could they have done that would cause this weird behavior?
