Check Engine Light Triggered by Trunk?

I was trying to install a flip flop trunk in my 1998 se maxima and i turned it on to move it with all the wires in the trunk disconnected. first it died on me, and now that it started the check engine light is on. Does anyone have any ideas at all about this? I am very confused.
